Give me a 35 MPH road that lasts forever and my hybrid will return 60 miles per gallon of gas. All day long.

What will the 2.0 EcoBoost Maverick do in this situation?

This was a less than ideal drive with a few stoplights and a few stop signs.

But I get close to 60 MPG every day. AFE set to 950/1000. (5% correction down)

On your forever-road, the EcoBoost will be one of the most efficient trucks on the planet, but it will still be thirsty compared to the hybrid. You'd essentially be asking a sprinter to walk a marathon; they'll do it easily, but they'll still burn more calories than a dedicated hiker.

So you don't know.

When I had a 2.2 non Turbo HHR Panel, it got 45 mpg at 40mph, and 40mpg at 45 steady speed. At 35 it might have got about 50mph on a steady drive.

I had a late 80’s geo metro xfi 5 speed with air that got low 50’s around town and mid 60’s on the interstate. Great car but would hate to wreck on the interstate. Frame cracked at 165,000 miles. Never had a problem until then. Sold it to a gentleman that welded the crack and drove it for years afterwards.

I think the real beauty of the hybrid is it loses nothing standing still. (Engine is off). And it gets a "free boost" (compared to a 2.0) after the stop sign from the recaptured regen energy.

I’m lucky to have a National Scenic Byway minutes from my house. 27 miles up to a 9000ft elevation ski resort & same 27 miles back down. 35mph posted speed limit - of course lowered on many turns.

I get 70+ mpg’s on the way down in my 25 EB;)

The Hybrid is an engineering marvel - especially for the price.

That said, I average less than $7 per week on 91 octane. While my EB gets fantastic MPG sitting in my garage - I think I would have a tough time keeping a Hybrid “alive”. Of course, everyone has different driving situations.

On a flat 35 mph road, if I set my cruise it'll run 40 mpg. EB FX4 with 4K tow.

Nice work! You went the speed limit too. That is the most impressive part!

I'm excited to get a hybrid Maverick and try it on my old commute route, which was basically half freeway, half country road. Basically any vehicle I took on that route would achieve the EPA freeway fuel economy for tank averages.

The key to super extra terrific astonishingly high MPG is consciously picking roads that allow for lots of engine off coating time. Roads with the tiniest downslope will aid tremendously. The hybrid transmission is super ultra low friction. It will coast like a puck on ice if you let it. While the gentle upslope going the other way has negligible negative effect.

The minutes (and miles) not generating waste heat adds up to big savings. The way I drive, I could remove my radiator. No joke.

If I drove 12,000 miles a year - I would save about $1,600 per year in gas money. That is enough to pay my insurance, oil changes, and maybe 2 tires.

Luckily, I only drive about 2,000 miles a year and end up spending about $250 extra in gas. I can live with that. If I had to spend $1,000 extra per year in gas to drive an EB - I’d seriously consider a Hybrid!
