Wud and I just picked up an Outer Banks BS 1.5 turbo. Cool little car. Pulls my small boat easily. Question is. Going to get a Maverick for myself hopefully same Area51 color. Cheapest version is the hybrid with CV tranny. No knowledge or time behind wheel of that combo. But it’s cheaper. Sure I would be happy with more power and 8 speed auto/4wd instead. What are your opinions of standard power train? Getting into an entirely different price class with bigger motor.

In all honesty, nobody really knows about the hybrid, because only Ecoboosts have been delivered to customers and dealers.

I am not sure how this figures into your vehicle calculus, but if you want a hybrid, you will have to order it. Though, a bare bones XL hybrid is more likely to get a build date than higher trims with more options.

All that said, I am waiting hybrid delivery to get the best mpg.

Thanks. I’m not worried about mileage as I only drive it 3 days a week about 5K miles a year. Strange how the no hybrid combo jumps so much in price.

I don't find it strange at all. The entry level hybrid is likely a loss leader to drum up interest in a different segment of buyers. With the 2.0 ECO + 8 speed combo you get more capability for the extra $ and the option of AWD, 4k tow pack, etc. Personally I would never consider the hybrid or CVT in any vehicle I buy. If you're not concerned about mileage why are you focused on the Hybrid- just to save the ~$3k?

actually, its just about $1K to select the turbo over the hybrid - if that's the only box you check. That's pretty much what i ordered.

I don't think there's ANY car made that's a true loss leader. Definitely not as much money to be made by Ford on a bare bones vehicle, but I bet those base model Maverick XL hybrids will end up being a HUGELY popular fleet vehicle. Cable companies/park districts/maintenance companies/etc that don't need the towing capability, but still want the functionality of a pickup with the greatly improved MPG over comparable options.
