I leave a USB stick plugged into the slot in the lower center dash all the time. It has (actually I should say HAD) 1647 songs on it. Over the past week I noticed the number of song files being shown were fewer than what I had originally loaded on the stick. Something like 90 songs were missing.

This morning, they all disappeared. A message came up on the display that said there were no files on the USB device. WHAT THE HELL?

Plugged the stick into my computer and it listed a file with an extension that made it look like a Word file but it had no data in it. Another file was shown as follows. CTR_Z175002Z_3FTTW8E92NRB04871. I didn't dare open it.

I have had to learn to live with the quirks within this audio system to reduce the annoyance it presents, but having to reload my music files onto the USB stick is total BS. It takes over an hour. I feel I shouldn't have to do that at all.

I'm repeating myself here, but I've found that in order to have the system pick up where it was when the truck was last shut off, I've got to turn off the audio system first. When the truck is started again, I've got to wait for the system to "index" the USB stick before it can be used.

HEY, FORD. IF YOU'RE READING THIS, TAKE NOTE. MY WIFE DRIVES A 2013 ESCAPE WITH AN IDENTICAL USB STICK LEFT IN THE SLOT AND IT ACTS NOTHING LIKE THE 2022 MAVERICK. NO INDEXING. NO GAMES THAT NEED TO BE PLAYED. IT JUST PICKS UP THE MUSIC WHERE IT LEFT OFF. SAME SOURCE. SAME SONG. HOW IN ALL HELL DID YOU PEOPLE MANAGE TO PRETTY WELL SCREW UP AN AUDIO SYSTEM THAT WORKED? IF THIS IS HOW MUCH YOU'VE "ADVANCED" THE TECHNOLOGY IN TEN YEARS, I CAN HARDLY WAIT TO SEE WHAT YOU COME WITH NEXT.

Fair enough. I'll try another stick. Didn't think of that. I've been so distracted dealing with how fussy this system is that that one never occurred to me.

I'm right there with ya man! I've been dumbfounded by the fact that Ford has somehow managed to devolve the USB ability of the Maverick vs my 2013 focus with the base stereo. I finally got an"AI Box" to play my vast music collection from, instead of dealing with the truck's USB. It won't even let you scroll through your musicwhen the truck is moving AND the voice control also doesn't function with the USB! Absolutely insane in my opinion... I love the truck, but the head unit is crap, lol.

A wireless adapter so you can play music via Carplay or Android Auto without using the USB cable to your phone. Essentially using your phone as the USB stick or streaming audio via cellular.

Sounds to me like a bad USB since they do tend to go bad and they warn against keeping stuff on them without a backup. I tend to use old thumb drives from trade shows and freebies, and they aren't the best quality, it might be worth buying SanDisk or another reputable brand. Or maybe buying the same brand as your wife had success with.

My biggest annoyance is trying to listen to AM or FM radio when Android Auto is on, you have to exit out of it and select a different source and then go back. It would have been nice to just have a source button on the dash.

I actually use the AI Box to store/play my music on, because the sound quality is better and I don't have to use my phone to play the tunes. The AI Box I'm using has 128gb storage and a micro SD slot. I have my music on the SD card. My phone is only connected for BT calls. The AI Box is essentially it's own Android device that can interface with the truck/ phone in a number of ways. I use my phone as a Hotspot if I want for the other features the android operating system has(like checking my trail cam).

I also have a USB stick installed with over 3000 songs and I have never had this problem and when I restart it comes right on and starts playing right where the last song left off. Just re-record your songs with known good USB and try again.

Wow!! I can only wish my audio system acted like yours. I've backed up all the music I want to have in the Mav onto a different brand of USB stick. It would be great to have it act like yours.

I use a USB stick with music. I agree, the Maverick is terrible. It has to spend time indexing everytime. None of the other vehicles I've had did this. It's very inconsistent too. Sometimes it picks up right where I left off when I turn the truck off, sometimes it doesn't.

I have a 'fabulous' flip phone (Kyocera DuraXA) and it has several hundred songs on it in one directory (no albums). It connects via bluetooth to my Lariat (with B&O audio) and I can change songs through the head unit. When I start the audio system, but my phone's music player isn't running, the truck starts it for me and tunes start playing. I have the phone's music player set to random play (as much 'random' as a computer can do, I suppose) and it seems to work OK.
Many music players keep track of how many times a song has been played so if there are hundreds of songs, the list of 'favorites' gets shorter and shorter, finally ending up with a half dozen songs that play when randomized play is engaged because there 'play times' are the highest. So far the Maverick/Kyocera combo has not done that crap and I hope it does not develop.
Clearing the 'number of plays' from a USB stick can be done through Windows but it is a PITA.

Never heard of a player that deletes tunes. . . is the truck running the latest firmware levels? What USB level is the stick you are using. Not that that should should matter but there are some strange vendors quirks in the USB world and not every vendor follows USB standards.

Does some else drive your truck and they are playing a cruel trick on you by removing the drive and deleting files? (just asking for a friend)

Good luck.

Over time, USB sticks get corrupted. I have used them in different cars and over time songs will start to glitch out more and more.

I'd keep a folder of music on a computer and when this starts to happen, FORMAT the USB drive and copy the music files back over to it.

I have roughly 6000 files on a USB with 30+ playlists. I've been using this for 5 months now and I can say that the USB reading system is very inconsistent on the Maverick. I don't have the extreme issues of the OP, but it could work much better

I have frequent issues with the scans taking too long and during the scan, you can't select playlists, artists, albums etc. You can only play all (which starts by track name alphabetically).

Sometimes the vehicle picks up and plays where I left off, sometimes it does not. I think if it is in the middle of a playlist and it reaches the end of a song before it finishes scanning, it doesn't know what to do and it displays a "Select from Media" message.

Overall, a frustrating experience. I didn't even mention the inability to browse while the car is moving. Why can't a passenger choose a new artist/album/playlist?

What brand and capacity of USB stick are you having such good luck with?
