Front end hit was caused by 16 year old newbie driver in mom's car who thought he could pull a quick Left turn in front of me at intersection where I had green light, right of way going 35 mph. He realized he misjudged and froze in my lane with nowhere for me to go to avoid him.Wasn’t the Falcon Ranchero a lower budget predecessor to the Mustang for the sixties? What happened to that left front end there?
I think GM will come out with a compact truck but I don't think they will bring back the El Camino name. El Camino is a more iconic name and people remember it more than a Maverick and associate it with a muscle car. Will Chevy bring the El Camino back?
Having owned two Mavericks, I like the Maverick name and am glad Ford chose to bring it back from the dead.
Ranchero would have been fine too.
I had my 71 Maverick and the Ford dealer had a new Maverick Stallion on the lot just like this one. I wanted that car but my dad said $3500 for a car with a manual transmission and no AC was just crazy.

You kind of got your wish for 3 years there before they just renamed the Five Hundred the Taurus again. It always throw me off a little when I see one of the Milans post-rename to wearing Sable badges.I never liked the Taurus name, I would have preferred Galaxie 500.
You are too kind. You give Ford Marketing too much credit. Is it ironic that one of the major selling points of the Maverick in 1970 was $1995; and today, $19,995. I think Marketing was lazy and figured that no one would remember the Maverick. If you were around in the 70's, how could you forget the Grabber Carwash?I agree, the meaning of Maverick goes along with what they are trying to covey about the truck.... someone who does not go along with the group..... not a conventional truck.
I agree the Taurus name was kind of a weird choice, but I don't think Galaxie 500 would have been a good fit either. I think Ford was trying to come up with a totally new name for a new kind of aerodynamic car.Rancheros and El Caminos started life as station wagons where the new Maverick is a new stand alone model but still based on an existing platform.

How come I am not on a Focus group?
Well said atomguy245.Maverick is a fine name. It conveys the message that this unibody truck is going a different route than the traditional body on frame trucks. It's a legacy name, but at the same time, only really old old timers remember the Maverick cars so it doesn't carry any preconceived notions for most buyers.
