I questioned that early on myself. My Avatar reflects my history with the Ranchero and it seemed like a no-brainer to revive the Ranchero name vs. Maverick since there are so many similarities to the actual Ranchero vehicle. Much moreso than the Maverick which was a lower budget Mustang like compact Pony car for the masses in the 1970's.

Maverick is a fine name. It conveys the message that this unibody truck is going a different route than the traditional body on frame trucks. It's a legacy name, but at the same time, only really old old timers remember the Maverick cars so it doesn't carry any preconceived notions for most buyers.

I think the name fits the truck more than it fit the car.

The Maverick is more truck looking compared to the Ranchero. I like the name Maverick much more then Ranchero (just my opinion).

My mother is not a car person so when I told her I was buying a Maverick she cringed because she thought it was going to be like the Maverick she owned back in the day when the entire rear floorboard was missing.
Funny my first car was a maverick that you could also see the road looking down where the floor board should of been.

Yes, mom, the 2022 Maverick is exactly the same as your old '73. Haven't changed a thing.

Why don't we call Mavericks "utes"?

Is it a car or is it a truck?
