Ford tire size configuration / recalibration for larger tires?

Not sure why they don't go with the Pirelli 235.....the ATR is available in a 235/65R17 & 245/65R17 as well. Well, I mean other than trying to upcharge for the wheel/tire upgrade - which you are already getting with the FX4 Package (and I like the black better). Not getting that for the same reason I didn't include the Tow Package, paying twice for only one item I'd like to have (Transmission Cooler) - have the Tow Package on my current truck of 15 years and never used it.

Anyone know what would be involved in a reconfigure/recalibrating for the larger tires (haven't had a Ford since my 1988 Ranger XLT)? The Factory Ford Performance Tune for the Ranger ECU also gave you the opportunity to configure tire sizes. I imagine this will be available for the Maverick down the road.

They likely didn't go with that tire because the stock tires on the FX4 are the same garbage they put on the Bronco Sport that's built in the same factory.

I am certain you know, but any change in OD is going to predictably alter your determined speed and power to ground. Be certain to adjust your Speedo and mpg expectations accordingly.

Very true, which was the main purpose of this thread. It appears the Ranger tune allows this recalibration, was hoping someone would be familiar with the recalibration with or without a factory tune.

I am a hybrid driver these days. Low rolling resistance and way too expensive Yokohama tyres for me recently, I am sure the brand will change.

gone are my days of change the gear on the speedo to match my Kelly Springfield safari’s on the farm truck days.

if you put larger tires on the Mav, don’t adjust the speedo until you are out of warranty. The larger tires will make the speedo and odometer run slower. This will let you stay covered under warranty for a little longer. 10% larger tires would mean 10% longer coverage. Then once you are out of warranty then you can adjust the speedo to read correctly.

Anything larger than 3% over the OEM size will void the warranty on most AWD vehicles. That's why I didn't lift my 2018 Subaru Crosstrek. Always do your research before making a wheel / tire change. It will safe you lots of grief.

Changing the tire size will not void warranty.

It may cause Ford to deny a repair if they feel that the larger tires caused the issue in the first place, but you won't lose your warranty.

Say you do put larger tires on right away and @ 5,000 miles you have a bad CV joint, Ford says it's the larger tires, won't cover the fix. No big deal, you pay out of pocket to fix the repair and move on. Next day, you're at 5,### miles, your radio quits working, you think the dealer's going to say "sorry, can't fix your radio, your warranty is void since you put on a bigger tire." No, they're going to get you in and fix it via warranty.

I don’t know either of you are really disagreeing. What the limit is I do not know, but if Ford has a 1000 mile warranty (just for simplification) and you hit 950 and they notice 10% tyre size increase they could deny it under the argument not only did you exceed the warranty distance, but you did so with intent to defraud. (Mens rea lit: bad or malicious mind)

This is what my original post was hoping to find.....and found this video today. It's with a new Bronco but should be same with Maverick. He easily changed his tire configuration and TPM settings with just an OBD2 connection and PC with FORScan program.

I am running 245/65-17's. If Waze is accurate, my speedo does not get off 1 MPH until I reach 55 MPH. Where my actual speed is 56 MPH. Even at 78-80 MPH it hasn't reached 2 MPH off. Still just 1 MPH. Pretty much a non issue at that tire size and not worth taking action.

Somewhere I read that the maximum tire size that was selectable in the chart by Ford tech's was the 265/70/r17. So my question would be if that was selectable then would choosing it would it be allowable under warranty (particularly if you paid Ford to make change)?
