That would be short sighted as the Maverick is an entry level vehicle that would/will build customer loyalty to the broader consumer for maybe a lifetime. If Ford wants to lead in the electrification move, a positive experience is needed. A Hybrid Maverick now can lead to many more Ford purchases down the road. Been there!
The Lightning IS bringing new Ford customers in the door. There aren't too many vehicles out there in the electric world that can offer what the Lightning does. Just like the Maverick you have people who have never owned a pickup truck OR a Ford before buying one for a multitude of reasons. Plus it's significantly more profitable than the Maverick. Remember that Ford isn't really having a tough time selling the Ecoboost Maverick so why would Ford relegate more battery resources to the Maverick Hybrid when they're much better served in the Lightning? Sure, the hybrid Maverick is more popular than the Ecoboost but Ford isn't having any problems selling the Ecoboost Maverick and it still serves the purpose you mentioned, getting Ford customers in the door. No offense but as a shareholder and considering the Lightning is sold out through 2024 I hope they push all the battery resources they can to Lightning production.

No offense but there are a lot more of potential lifetime Ford customers that can not afford an 80-100 thousand dollar Lightening. The fact that the initial base engine was the hybrid for the Maverick got a lot of people excited, including the new to Ford. Now they want you to switch to an ECO. I hate to say it but that does resemble a bait and switch.

So I guess my bigger complaint would be then, why did they let twice as many people order a hybrid than they could produce or deliver in a reasonable amount of time? That seems like a terrible business decision! Hey I'm a big Ford fan and actually own stock in the company.
That is a question and complaint that you are going to have to ask Ford about not me.

From what I've been told by my dealer and reading on other forums, the problems /constraints with the hybrid is the lack of high voltage batteries, supply issues with the raw materials, lithium. This is affecting other auto manufactures, not just Ford.

Ken
It's funny that the Lithium stock I bought just over 1 year ago (1/4/22) is actually down 22% since then. Not what I would expect (Symbol: LIT)

I say there is less of a market for the Lightning than the Maverick. Ford is missing the electric socket here playing to the lesser number of folks willing to dole out 110K for a truck. What first time buyer has that kind of capital. More likely to sell more units of the Maverick than the Lightning over a 5 yr timeframe.

But, they can still afford an Ecoboost Maverick so their needs are being served, maybe not their wants, but their needs. There will be a time when battery technology reaches a better economy of scale and with Ford's battery production ventures maybe they will get to a point where producing more hybrid Mavericks is feasible but at this point it's not and if it comes down to producing more Lightnings or Mavericks when both are sold out it's a no brainer. You guys are making an emotional assessment rather than a logical assessment. You may not want to believe it but there is a lot of wealth out there right now and there are a lot of people who can easily afford an 80k electric vehicle.

No they don't. They need to produce a certain amount of hybrid vehicles to meet state and federal emission regulations for the rest of their fleet.

Do you all think the 35% cap on hybrids was just pulled out of a hat?
See, now there you go bringing logic into the discussion which runs completely contrary to the righteous indignation sentiment that is common in most threads...

Big new find in rare earth minerals in Northern Europe would be a game changer reducing need from China & Russia in the future. Lithium ion phosphate Batteries have too many issues that emerging technologies in batteries would likely solve.
I don’t expect these batteries to be manufactured in five years.

So they can keep telling shareholders how they're conquering other brands with their new segment, heck I mean they even raised prices 10% and still took in two years' worth of orders in a week. They must still think they're far enough ahead to get away with it or that they've gotten what they need out of it. There's plenty of other cool cars out there, so may as well explore options and get on some other waitlists. I went from potential Ford convert to leaning away from the Maverick in favor of trading the utility of a truck bed for the benefits of a PHEV or EV. The longer the take, the more I'm considering trying to cancel my order and fully committing to something else instead of waiting to see what comes in first.

Ford needs to figure out a way to get these delivered or customers like me and the new to Ford customers will just go somewhere else and may never return to the brand.
Are most people really that brand loyal? When I need a vehicle, I buy the best one that fits the money I have to spend, and brand is about the last thing I consider.

Am I unusual?

I used to be Chrysler/Mopar guy. Still have a D100 and Chrysler Minivan. Not good luck with GM products back in the day and that still lingers. Had a Hyundai Elantra recently but loaned it out to the kids and it took a beating so I sold it. Actually own a Toyota RAV4 with the 3.5 V6 now that my wife drives. The Fords seemed to do better in the past and I usually give them first choice. I usually do a fair amount of research before I buy including Consumer Reports, Edmunds, KBB...
