Do you have a photo?

Install a piece of 90 degree aluminum trim that prevents it from being accessed from the rear, then it could only be pulled from below once the tailgate is open

The tennis ball thing was complete 🐂💩
The "tennis ball car lock" trick does not work, as it is a myth that has been proven false by various tests and experts. The method, which involves creating a pressure chamber by smashing a hole-poked tennis ball against the car lock, fails because modern car doors and their locking mechanisms are not a sealed, airtight system. Instead, videos showing the trick are likely faked, with someone else using a key to unlock the door in the background
The tennis ball trick that went round the internet missed out details, the one that was actually in use from 2 or 3 years prior worked, though highly limited in year range and models and actual age/wear of vehicle (new locks were too tight.) That's why I say things like hunt for where they can use them ... slim jims are useless on most modern vehicles for example. Mostly have to worry about replay and relay attacks now. But anyway, intended as a throwaway example that common folk might actually have heard of even if the version they heard of was BS. I am not going to stand up for whatever is in anyone elses heads about it, or describe it in enough detail to replicate, so throw away the throwaway and let's talk about tonneau covers.

That is one of the ideas under consideration, gotta find max height that will not interfere with flip back and tie up at back of cab modes. Also preferably not rubbing or gouging other pieces. Got some kinda short stuff, but not sure it couldn't be flexed out the way by someone who doesn't care about damaging my cover.
At least you'll make the thieves go through more trouble than somebody that has a soft top. Where all they need is a .99 cent box cutter. To slice through the vinyl.

A wide flat blade screwdriver prying from the side will break the plastic latches. If a soft top cover a razor knife works well. Any GOOD thief has a crowbar in his hand anyways. Locks keep honest people out.
Yep, you are correct. A crowbar will open that hard tonneau in about 3 seconds. I keep my truck in the garage all the time. At night, if I hear a noise out there i send my two security guards out there to take care of business! The are a couple bad ass dudes! If need be, I follow-up with my Glock. Here are my guards.

Some might laugh but dachshunds are tenacious and I knew one that was down right vicious.
Yeah, they have an attitude. German translation for Dachs is "Badger", hund means hound, or, "Badger Hounds" They will go in a hole and chase critters out of there, including badgers. I have ran across an occasional badger while out elk/deer hunting. I give them a WIDE berth. Evil bastards.

Most anti theft measures are to keep most people out . A real thief is going to get into your car , house or whatever no matter what . You maybe able to slow them down somewhat imo and maybe they will move on or give up (to much trouble) .
specifically, I have yet to see a tonneau cover that can't be forced open with a crowbar.

this destroys the cover and damages the bed, but what's the thief care? if you live somewhere this could happen and park on the street, my recommendation is no cover.

the rest of us will be fine.

I am gonna jump to the conclusion that anyone carrying a crowbar that doesn't mind making a lot of noise, or looking like they're obviously crowbarring something, will smash a window also, so no point leaving bed uncovered and hiding stuff under back seat or in glovebox either. Have only had "noisy/obvious" attacks on my vehicle decades back, when I had to park out of sight of my residence. I still can't believe they stole mixtapes, I mean blank tapes were five for a buck by that time. In later "Shit, did I leave it unlocked or how TF did they get in?" incidents, either nothing missing or some weird "nothing" item like a pen or an ice scraper. I never leave anything worth anything in vehicles on the daily.

I am aiming at limited improvement to avoid a quick and subtle break in, so I can do my Christmas shopping without losing any.

Damn, that sucks ... I can't imagine living like that daily.

In my area most folks leave their car doors unlocked, often with their keys and wallets inside. But also four of my ten closest neighbors are cops and drive their cruisers home ... that's a pretty good deterrent too

I live in the overlap between big city problems and tourist area problems, but it's not really like that "daily" there's spates of it every few months.

The lock indicates there's something worth using a crowbar to check out.
and a 4 foot crowbar is getting in there in under a minute, destroying the bed and cover.
