No, not from Ford. At the time I responded, the thrust of the conversation had been the ridiculous length of time that consumers have been solicited to purchase an extended warranty. I thought it was a relevant comment.
You have that right when they're 3rd party. There is nothing backing them as they are not required to carry a reserve like an insurance company. They can operate like a Ponzi scheme, paying claims with current subscription premiums. At least with manufactures extended warranty you have multi-billion dollar companies behind them. I'm not sure how profitable factory warranties are for the manufacture (must be some profit or they wouldn't sell them) but there are decent margins for the dealer.
I get aftermarket pitches, too but these are from my local dealer as well as the dealer I purchased from. It's annoying but not at all tempting.
