I priced out the ESP online at a couple of the vendors and Granger was lower by about $50-100

I've been doing some price shopping at Granger on their premium plans and threw together some graphs. This really illustrates some of the sweet spots (60k and 100k miles)

Prices subject to change or be different, as this is just from me scraping their website at https://www.grangerfordextendedwarranty.com/ford/maverick.html#vapp

If you want to slice it or see the specific numbers, you should be able to use this one.

let me know if it breaks or you want the data for your own pivot tables

This is a very valuable post, thank you for putting the spreadsheet together.

I have a Maverick XL with no options other than a hitch coming in likely next week. I have been contemplating ESP and after doing some research I'm on the fence getting the "Baseplan" 10 year 100K for $945 through Granger. Seems like a reasonable price for the piece of mind, and enough covered parts on the XL to make it worth my while.

I've been a "never buy the warranty" type of guy for awhile now, listening to financial advisors and such. But I have a 2018 Explorer that just had the dreaded water pump failure and now I'm thinking I should have bought one for that vehicle when I had the chance.

Another detail is that dealerships in my area are literally booked out into August to even get you in to diagnose your vehicle. What good is the ESP if you can't get an appointment to have your car diagnosed for nearly 2 months? To my understanding the warranty only covers the rental for 10 days if you add it on.

Decisions, decisions....

DDEG10: you might consider waiting until your basic three-year 36 warranty is about to expire before making this purchase. I must’ve change something recently you were allowed to purchase the extended warranty up until that time frame and you will know if you need it by then.

Am I right that the HVAC blend door that was a common issue on early build current gen Rangers isn’t covered under any of these plans? I don’t see it listed. I’m sure it’s a different part on the Maverick, but if it’s not covered, points to a hole in the available coverage.

I bought the ESP when the factory warranty was a year from expiring on my 2000 F250 4x4 7.3 Diesel.
Never used it
I will be buying ESP for the 2020 Shelby next year. Just my 2 cents but I'd stay away from car shield warranties

Because of these charts I chose 9 year 100k miles. Think I'm reading that right for best overall value? I should be getting the Premiumcare $200 deductible for $1265, dealer is willing to price match Granger =)

Its still clear as mud. Which plan (if any) covers the fault-prone exhaust heat exchanger on the hybrid?

Just buy a new truck every 3 years or 36k miles, after the power train warranty runs out. No worries.

My two cents on Ford ESP plans: If you buy a plan for $1000 in 2023, and only ever need an $800 repair a few years down the road, you likely still made out better when considering 2023 dollars vs 2029 (or whenever) dollars. And an $800 dollar repair is like 3 hours of shop time.

Anyways, if you are comparing plans, here they are in spreadsheet form, which is a little easier to see what each plan adds. The file has two sheets, each with a different layout.

Is the purchased warranty supposed to be listed in the app like the tire warranty is?
When I bought my truck I signed all of the paperwork and it was reflected in the price. Unless it shows up when I take the truck in this could turn into another source of conflict between Dealer McScrouge and myself.
This is why I hate buying cars.

In addition to it being in the app (screenshots I attached in my prior reply), you should get a long document that details all the "legal-eze"/terms/conditions. You can always print that out (I got mine as a PDF), and bring it in when needing service. The warranty is tied to the VIN, so there is no excuse for a dealer service department to be confused about coverage/if your Maverick is covered.

Or buy two, then you always have a backup if there are any problems. Plenty of options if money is no concern to you.

That’s why there is leasing. I hate writing this but all of my extended warranties ended up paying for themselves. I had one ford that ended up having the transmission replaced.
I always think of it as gambling. Unfortunately the jackpot usually involves inconveniences.

Just remember one important fact...these warranties have a mileage and term life. If you are putting a lot of miles on your truck like some do every year then you could easily pass your warranty limits in a few years. Most electrical issues pop up with aging whereas mechanical issues are usually more related to mileage...so consider it when you go for an extended warranty. Mine usually runout before I can really make use of them but if I was buying a 100K car I would want one on it since I tend to put more miles on my cheaper vehicles whereas the more expensive vehicles would tend to hit their lifetime limits.
