Depends which option you select as to what all is covered, from PowertrainCARE all the way up to PremiumCARE. At minimum, it covers the powertrain longer - the components that provide power to move the vehicle down the road (focused around engine, transmission, etc.). At the high end, basically everything. What does an extended warranty cover that a regular does not? Just last longer? If a part wears out and needs replacement is it covered? I am new to new cars lol
There are also options for key, lighting, and rental coverage, if you're worried about any of those. If it needs to be kept overnight, a rental is included, but you have the option to pay more for an immediate rental even if repairs will be done same day. Though, I'm not sure when that ever happens unless you find a unicorn dealer that's not busy...
FordProtect is the most recommended option as it is direct through Ford and valid at any dealer in the country. 3rd party warranties tend to be less reputable.
Take a look at Ford's site to learn more: https://fordprotect.ford.com/extended-service-plan
If you do decide to purchase one, know that dealers tend to mark them up a lot over their cost. They aren't always willing to negotiate, as they prefer to make hundreds or more on each sale, just for filing the paperwork with Ford.
However, you can buy it at any time during the 36 mo/36,000 mi factory bumper to bumper warranty. Combine that with dealers like Zeigler Ford, Flood Ford, Granger Ford offering low markups when purchased online and it becomes much more affordable.
Feel free to request quotes from them to compare.
That said, like any form of warranty/insurance, whether or not it does pay for itself is hard to predict in advance. Only you can decide if it makes sense for you.
