My first wife had a puke-green Maverick Grabber, that someone had transplanted a V-8 into. What a POS.

HRG
ME to , I don't know what happened to it . Didn't make much of an impact on me ,at the time.

The car, or the wife?

🤔

I still miss the old cars.
Nothing to figure out,
Go try and drive a Model T, and get back to us on that!

Or just about anything from the 20s . . .

everyone just had lower expectations.
The only think I remember from "Mad TV" is them singing the "Lowered Expectations" for their dating service!

I still miss the old cars. Okayyyy, Let me clarify to those that don't know
when the Mavericks were out. :XD Kidding.
Nothing to figure out, I'll stand by this one.

Model T !
Nope, not that old. Seen one once, In motion.

Drove a 1949 Ford Coupe, black, no A/C In Central Florida In September, In traffic.
Never again. Ten miles, 25 minutes. I lost two pounds by sweating it out.
I didn't like looking at the steering wheel column
knowing It would easily Impale me and was pointed right at my Heart.
And ya needed both legs to stop it unless you played sports.
Yeah I remember.

Automobiles of the late 50's to the late 70's made me feel the passion.
After 1977 they were nothing but machines. A good one could haul two dirt bikes
out to Croom, Hernando County, Florida.

Bought a Used 3 Yr Old 2010 Mustang 4.0L V-6 with a pony package, Real Leather interior,
Shaker sound and a Suuweet Candy Red color. Mint condition with 21,000 miles.

Hey, It had the slowest engine in any mustang, the 4.0L v6
and that told me It was a chick car and was babied.

Cause not a single guy I ever met would buy a slow Mustang.
It had just enough power to scare It's projected buyers,
Women In their mid 30's just a little bit. :'P

Ignition points, now there’s a term you don’t hear very often. I had a dual point setup in my old Camaro, fun setting up the gaps!
I bet It was LoL

Ford Maverick For the Kids 1978-Ford-Mustang

Not too far from the Mavericks frame I think.

The one thing I do not miss from these older versions is the amount of play in the steering. Constantly moving the steering wheel to keep the car on a straight line . . . driving was exhausting. No feel for the road. I felt like I had very little say so as to where the car was going.

And that’s why I think Ford should have used the Courier name for this truck

I'm 49, and I honestly do not. Dad was a chevy guy, wrenched on dad's '67 and '69 camaros, then I had a '88 z28 and a '65 chevelle, and I do not miss carburetors at all. if I see one on anything bigger than a leaf blower, I'm out. I also don't miss terrible brakes, terrible handling, and a lack of traction control.

I've never connected to the old Maverick and especially not the bullhorns logo. In fact I had to ignore the guy that finds new people / new threads and offers the MTC sticker to them. :ROFLMAO:

Colin’s,
“I do not miss carburetors at all. if I see one on anything bigger than a leaf blower, I'm out. I also don't miss terrible brakes, terrible handling, and a lack of traction control.”

Carburetors sucked big time yes.
Brakes. You said it. But back then they could be used for steering control when on the edge, no antilock.
As for handling. My 1972 Camaro.
Dropped the rear springs at the rear by drilling new spring mount holes one inch above the originals, again at the rear of the leaf springs.
It took a good chunk of change to buy the needed length of 4 gage battery cable to mount the battery midship in the trunk.
Those two things effectively changed the handling just like moving the engine and transmission back six inches.
It balanced the car.
Traction control, pfft.
That’s handled by hanging the rear end out to the side a little.
Yeah thing are better but there is no challenge.

Puke green, yeah I remember that color.
We had to carry an extra set of points in the glove box. Just in case.
The Maverick was a bit better than the Ford Pinto. Then Ford perfected the POS category when they made the Escort a decade or so later.

Well, there were these:
I was a VW Rabbit GTI, VW Rabbit TD fan, but I lusted after the 86-87 Ford Escort GTs too.

Come to think of it, my eldest cousin had a red Maverick, I remember bringing cokes out to him or relaying a message to him from the adults in the house ,as him and his buddies were tinkering with it …LOTS of times.
but I honestly do not remember ever seeing him drive it.

Oh yeah kids these days have no idea.
My Moms 1973 Plymouth Valient broke down about four times a year and limped home a few more times.

Moving that ~50 pound battery to the trunk did just about jack squat. 50 pounds is 1.5% of the curb weight of a 3300lb 1972 Camaro. I supposed you gained a slight amount of traction from extra sprung weight over the rear axle, but it didn't do much of anything for F/R weight balance.
