He said pulling the fuse was not enough to fully disable the telematics unit. He went as far as opening up the dash and removing the unit itself because it was still sending signals sometimes. The unit is behind the HVAC controls (22-24). We‘ll have to dig up the post, I think it was called something along the lines of ‘How to remove telematics unit’,

FWIW, at least with the 26 models and probably 25 also, the TCU is located under or near the drivers seat towards the center console area.

I like the idea of them in use for their original intent only, but like anything else in life, they have more than one use AND when in the hands of the wrong person, can do some serious damage. I say they come up with a different method of tracking the crooks.

I am known for my lack of reading skills. If I get this right Ford is running these plate reading cameras. No wonder Ford lacks quality in many of there vehicle models. When I last checked the edge and maverick were the only 2 model that had an average or better hold up record.

I live in a small town in the northern Shenandoah Valley. I knew about flock, but never really thought too much about it impacting me where I lived. Then a few weeks ago, something on the web mentioned the de-flock webpage so I had a look. My little hillbilly town has the flock cameras on every road entering or leaving town. It’s only a few cameras because it’s a small town. As far as I can tell, they only missed one way in and out of town, which is a dirt road but I’ve actually been on it a time or two thanks to Waze getting me home when the highway was totally screwed up. Then I looked at all the other little small towns up and down interstate 81 in the Shenandoah Valley and they were all set up the same way. Flock cameras coming in and out of town. I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania so I checked there also, and it seems to have the same basic set up. Small towns are maybe not as profitable as the cities, but it must be a good business model for flock. So I guess it doesn’t matter where you live. We’re all screwed.

There is already a vast network of for profit companies such as Lexis Nexis / ChoicePoint which collects data (name, address, date of birth, phone numbers, SS#, relatives names, prior addresses, loans, bankruptcies, registered vehicles, etc, etc) from many sources you wouldn't even think about. (DMV, land records, utility bills, subscription accounts, social media account, club memberships, etc. They then resell it to anyone willing to pay (I used it in my prior employment). If you don't think Flock will do the same thing, you're kidding yourself. There are other LPR (license plate reader) companies that will pay people like tow trucks, taxi cabs, etc, to mount their LPR cameras on their vehicles and capture the vehicle, reg plate, GPS location, time and date of every vehicle they pass by either parked or traveling in the same or opposite direction. Based on that info it can determine where you work, live, or locations you frequent often! Also useful if you claim your car was hit while parked at the mall, but the insurance company gets a photo from 2 days prior with the damage already there.

And of course none of these companies notify you when they do such things. It is essentially impossible to hold them accountable for anything. Think about how difficult it is for you to contact a human with businesses that ostensibly have an interest in keeping you as a customer. Now, think about trying to reach someone at a company that doesn't want you to know they know anything about you.
