First Truck, do I need a spray in liner?

Is a bed liner needed on a truck?

I’m just wondering for my first truck will I need a spray in bed liner if I’m not moving things often? What are the benefits to having a bed liner? Also what are the benefits or negatives to not having one? Would it also be fine to get a rubber all weather mat for the bed and a tonneau cover? Or is the truck completely fine with just the factory painted bed?

Just curious what others think.

I would say yes. Truck beds without a liner get scratched easily and a liner will keep it looking good for a long time.

Paint - definitely will get scratched up but do you care if the bed has scratches and a few rust spots in a couple years?

plastic mat with cover - probably sufficient. From time to time you will need to remove the mat and clean the bed. You have sun protection with the cover and minor dings on the sidewalls of the bed are expected with a truck

drop in liner - they tend to reshape over the years. Not as protective as spray in. This is essentially buying a cheap phone case and complaining when the phone brakes or that the case looks like shit.

spray in - there are dozens of options. Most offer lifetime warranty and look great for years. If you want protection and keep your truck bed looking nice this is the way to go. Combine with a cover you could get a cheap line x option ($500-550) because you wouldn’t need the sun protection. I am not buying a bed cover so I will get the premium line x that has sun protection

Thank you for the response! I’m in Florida and I originally had the spray in bed liner on my order but the dealership ended up talking me out of it saying it would take longer for the build. But I also feel I’m gonna have to wait anyways so I feel I should have just left it on the order. Has anyone added it after? In regards to the Ford Factory bed liner do you know if it has sun protection? Because that’s a great point I know I’ll need that where I’m at.

I can’t confirm this but I’ve read the factory spray in bed liner is made by line x and I don’t believe it would have sun protection. The factory warranty for the bed liner is 36 months. You could get Line X premium (with sun protection) for about the same cost aftermarket and have a lifetime/nationwide warranty on it. I’ve also seen factory spray in jobs that are less than desirable. They were rushed and the coating was applied thin. If this happens at a Line X facility you could just take the truck back to them.

100% yes you need a liner. Otherwise the very first thing you through in the back will start scratching the paint. Whether you get a spray in or a drop in is up for debate

Current truck has spray in liner. Will not own another without. I like the texture. If it gets dirty spray it out. With the build or aftermarket = good choice.

So should I or can I get another coat put on a spray in after the 36 mo. warranty?

Well you can always do a refresh where they add a layer, that is usually cheaper than the original spray in. However I don’t think you would need to for 5 plus years unless the sun discolored it and you want the original color back in it.

Without a spray it'll deteriorate almost as fast as it depreciates, imo :) Not a fan of mat liners, either, seems like ideal conditions for water to congregate and misbehave.

Has anyone gotten a quote from Line-x for either Premium or Xtra on the 2022 Ford Maverick yet?
