Tesla has full auto drive in every car.
But it remains disabled because the DOT keeps adding
new restrictions each time Tesla updates to cover the previous restrictions.
While Ford fumbles with ACC and lane keeping assist.
It’s a damn shame.

I am very tired then ford. This is my worst experience among the 6 brands of cars I have bought.
YOU FELL ASLEEP AND THE TRUCK KEPT YOU FROM DRIVING OFF THE ROAD.

Repeat that (substitute "you" for "I" and "me"), until it sinks in.

You should be exulting praises and not criticizing. Since you were ASLEEP, you don't know how long the system was in warning and whether it was functioning correctly and would have slowed you down. Luckily, you woke up. Possibly before that was going to happen. You don't know. You don't have the data to say that it wasn't functioning correctly. Papa Smurf [olfordguy] needs to realize this also.

_____________

This is why I want all vehicles to have Advanced Driver Assistance features...

Not just for me, but to save me from all the other drivers that make poor choices. Highly, highly likely that my 1 month old Mav wouldn't have been rear-ended if they had a newer vehicle with AEB or similar.

I wondered what the "lil Nanny Truck" would do if I did not respond to her commands while driving to keep your hands on the wheel.

We have a 22 mile stretch of straight road not to far from us, not the slightest curve in the whole 22 miles. I had cruse control and lane centering on then took my hands off the wheel and let her bitch. After about the second warning the brakes came on and we started to slow down. I didn't want to came to a complete stop so I took command of the vehicle again.
After reading post #14 Now I know what would have happened.

P.S. I told my insurance lady about all the features of "Lil Nanny Truck" and she said, damn I'd never own anything like that" . I warned her (my insurance lady) that if I ever get in an accident and Nanny truck shows all my wrong doings, I piss her off every day I'm driving. (Always in a safe environment of course:crackup::crackup::crackup:
Thanks for the experience! What model do you have? I've tried letting go of the steering wheel but it keeps going and never brakes, just gurgles and writes on the screen.

I understand you don't have any open recalls, but reporting it would let them know of a possible issue, they can investigate and get one created if needed.
And it would just be a software update of some kind. Things like: turn off cruise. Turn on flashers. Honk horn. Just as the VW ad showed. Don't even need to do the drive to shoulder thing. Just something to prevent a catastrophic accident. What if it wasn't sleeping and was a heart attack or seizure?

Honestly this just makes me angry with your employer and the fact more people are overworking themselves in modern societies more than anything else.

Work reform is needed ASAP.

But no, this is not FORDs fault at all.

Yes that is what we need. Make people less productive. Or just try and encourage more responsible people.
Nobody forces him to have a job that he has to drive 3 hours after work.
GTFO with that crap. Just what I want it the government telling me I can’t work. I for one love the ability to work longer and harder than others. It allows me the lifestyle I live.

Regarding hands on the steering wheel with the driver assist feature:
I was told that if you jam a water bottle in the spokes or use a piece of 550 cord and an S-hook to attach a water bottle to one side of the steering wheel to add some uneven weight to it, that the driver assist will think you still have your hands on the wheel.

I have not tried it though and No I’m not saying this is a bright idea.
Might as well say, “Hold my beer and watch this chit!”

Sorry if I’m repeating what someone else has said, but I didn’t read all the comments. My experience is that the Maverick lane keep gives you a warning every 30 seconds or so, even if I’m paying attention to the road, then I have to jiggle the steering wheel to make it go away. If I don’t, it will kick off the cruise control after another 10-15 seconds and start to slow down, while maintaining the lane keep. I have never followed this to its natural conclusion, because I didn’t want to hold up traffic. But now I am motivated to test it out.

I did test this test in my tesla on a deserted highway at night years ago. It slowed down to 30 mph and put the hazards on when I failed to jiggle the steering wheel in the appropriate warning period. After driving at 30 mph for about 30 seconds, I chickened out and started speeding back up.

given my experiences, what I’m guessing happened is that you were asleep for less than 45 seconds, or your cruise control would have kicked off and you would have slowed way down.

I need to go and thoroughly test this.

Glad you are alive and well to write this thread. Thank God above for sparing you any harm.
Most of my cars are very old, manual shift and very low tech. The more I read on how the youth are relying on high tech cars to help them drive the more I appreciate just being a good smart alert defensive driver.

This feature is not to make it easier to drive. This feature is a safety feature. Imagine nobody was asleep, we just checked this feature and it doesn't work - that's all I'm trying to tell people.

Tell yourself whatever you need to in order to justify the amount you've been manipulated, but it's an idiotic outlook. The "gubberment" is already in your work. Nobody is telling you that you can't work or that you can't earn - they are saying you shouldn't have to kill yourself to make a living. Some people do HAVE to drive for hours because it's the only place they can AFFORD to live. And some jobs require that people put in 50+ hours a week as a minimum for a route position. I know because I did one. They were constantly asking me to "clock out" and work for free because days stretched beyond allotted time to work. But oh heaven forbid I get things done in 48 hours one week.... then I get penalized financially for it. Don't even get me started on the poor infrastructure built in this country that makes those without vehicles marginalized either... but I guess that's their fault too? No transportation = no earning, right? Sure, why not. Keep the government out of my "traveling" and become a sovereign citizen while you are at it. It's funny how people value family time so much and the nuclear family, but then simp for companies forcing both parents to work overtime every week to live. Who's really to blame here... How a parent could not advocate for their children not having to work as much, be taxed less, and be better off then their parents were is beyond my level of comprehension. Seems pretty selfish to me.

GTFO with your crap.

Know the difference and grow up.

Apologies for the derailment (on this post not my previous one), but I know the feeling and no matter how alert you consider yourself, sometimes the body just says "nah".

After 73 posts, I guess I'll have to try and verify if this safety feature works, or not (or did I inadvertently skip over the post that actually verified operation). I'll post my results.
I'm also stunned at the number of folks that have never made a poor decision while operating a motor vehicle. Granted, falling asleep at the wheel can cause dire consequences, but also something as insignificant as failure to signal a lane change, can be just as devastating. Bottom line, I don't recall reading the OP admitting to falling asleep at the wheel more than once. I have to believe we've all had our "Live and Learn" moments.

Listen, nobody absolutely nobody tells you or forces you to work. If you do t like the job quite. It’s a mutual agreement between employer and employee.
That’s end of story. Unless someone is holding a gun to you you are not being forced.

That brings us back to personal responsibility. Nobody forces me to work 60 hours a week and drive. Same as op those are choices and you can whine all you want. The only one who is selfish is the guy wanting the government to step in with more restrictions on work hours.
Oh those greedy business owners. Try starting one and see how you feel dealing with whiney babies like your self that feel they are being forced.
