"What was that? Can't hear you over the sound of your gas bill."

Wave to him as you are passing by at him in a gas station.I was loading some 2X4 and 2X6's at Home Depot, while I was strapping them down some guy stopped and said "Next time you should buy a real truck with an 8 foot bed"! A few good comebacks rushed into my head, but I took the high road and ignored him. Not sure why some people cant keep to themselves. What do you think a good comeback would have been?
Riffing on that..."What was that? Can't hear you over the sound of your gas bill."
I've found that most admire it's practicality and say they'd get one if they didn't have to tow their heavy boat. Meanwhile. I think they overestimate the weight of their boat in many cases which could often be towed for the 30 miles to the lake with the FWD Maverickeven though the Mav has been on the market for years, it's still uncommon. I get asked about it in parking lots sometimes. The Compensator Truck/SUV types are usually nonplussed or mollified when I say I average 45mpg. I have yet to get a "but...but...my truck's bigger!" response. I can see the gears turning in their head, imagining what they'd do with that extra $500+ they spend on fuel every month.
Also, I use small words that the average person would understand so as not to exasperate or incite.
Yes, but could they tow it at 10mph over the speed limit? THAT'S what they are concerned about; acting like they are a racecar driver while going to the lake through town.I've found that most admire it's practicality and say they'd get one if they didn't have to tow their heavy boat. Like a Seadoo brand 18ft bowrider on a single axle trailer, all the features and facilities of your normal 18ft plastic tub at only three times the price. Or a 14ft tinner on a three axle, like "Jeebus I could have that on TOP of my truck with a $200 ladder rack."I've found that most admire it's practicality and say they'd get one if they didn't have to tow their heavy boat. Their requirement for towing is “my truck didn’t even know it was there” . If the acceleration is noticeably slower with the boat attached, they believe they need a bigger truckYes, but could they tow it at 10mph over the speed limit? I regularly haul 10-15 4X8 sheets of (name your 4X8 sheet) 1/2" drywall. I've shown lots of my friends driving full size trucks (that means 6' beds, now) how the Mav carries 8 ft stock with the clever optional tailgate support anchors. All of them have asked if their truck can do that. The other point, in case you've been talking to a geezer is, at 72 yrs, it is a hell of a lot easier for me to slide big stock from a HD flat top cart into the Mav bed than getting help to huck it up into a taller truck. I am a lifetime pick-up driver, I've moved a lot of stuff.I was loading some 2X4 and 2X6's at Home Depot, while I was strapping them down some guy stopped and said "Next time you should buy a real truck with an 8 foot bed"! When I first got my Maverick a couple a guys at work gave me the "real truck" diss too. The next week I had a tall load of manure in it and no more comments.I was loading some 2X4 and 2X6's at Home Depot, while I was strapping them down some guy stopped and said "Next time you should buy a real truck with an 8 foot bed"! I would have said 'I had one, an F250 8 ft bed. But was tired of 16 mpg. and not able to drive thru a fast food restaurant. So instead of being a dumbass, I traded it for the Maverick. What about you?'I was loading some 2X4 and 2X6's at Home Depot, while I was strapping them down some guy stopped and said "Next time you should buy a real truck with an 8 foot bed"! It's exactly the truck many NEED. But then they go out and spend 3 times as much on some giant wheeled behemoth.I just say, "It's exactly the truck I need and I get almost 50MPG..." (in Normal Mode)
