My son, the BMW Master Tech, noticed a lot of moisture inside one of my taillight assemblies, specifically it looked like it was in the clear backup light area. 1 Dealer service advisor I called said to leave it with them for 4-5 days! The other smaller local dealer service advisor told me that these assemblies are vented and sometimes appear to have a good bit of moisture in them (Not puddles). He said to give it 2 days to see if it goes away. Today (2 days from last water event, a carwash) it was almost all
gone.
My son the mechanic and I both feel that if this amount gets in regularly it will corrode the bulb sockets. He said to ask for the engineering design page of the venting design! He also said that that amount of moisture on the lens interior will result in the lens holding dirt, transmitting less light and could be a safety issue for vehicles following me. I'd like to see the defense argument for that lawsuit of an accident from dirty wet interior surface that cannot be easily cleaned.
Anyone have experience with this issue, before we get into the heavy rains and hurricane season!
