I own a 23 XL Hybrid that I am very happy. I am considering buying another one for work and am not sure whether to get the ecoboost or Hybrid. I will be adding a topper or ladder rack and carrying ladders and some tool boxes. Is it worth the extra power and loss of MPG to get the ecoboost? Which one has the more reliable powertrain?
For work buy 2024 Ecoboost XL with hitch and copilot 360. Reserve one of the on hold for recall 2024's and save some $.
Both powertrains are reliable.

My Maverick is now my fourth EcoBoost Ford I've owned. The first being a 2012 F-150 XLT, second was a 2016 F-150 XLT both had the 3.5 EcoBoost crew cabs. Third was my wife's 2016 Ford fusion SE 1.5 EcoBoost. Now my 24 Maverick 2 l EcoBoost is the fourth, hoping for many trouble free miles and years out of this one as well.

I absolutely love the power and torque on this little motor.

Well I am undecided, I have been watching forum for a very long time. The hybrid was the whole reason I started looking at the maverick. I drove an EB xlt with awd and 4k and was going to buy it and had to go out of town on a trip, and someone else bought it while I was gone. Found a hybrid XL with Co-pilot 360 only option and was going buy it and then the stop sell hit the next day. I am going to look at two tomorrow, both 24 model lariats one hybrid and one EB. Hopefully I will be able to decide between the two. The battery issue with the hybrid worries me, as I do not want to have to trickle charge a new truck, or have bad cv joints. I am getting ready to retire, and I hope this is the last truck I have to buy. It is a tough decision for an old man to make with problems on both sides. I think the hybrid would do all I need, I dont tow much other than small utility trailer. I do live in the foothills of NC so mountains and hills are a plenty in my neck of the woods. Dont know how the hybrid would handle the mountains of NC. I only drive around 6,000 to 7,000 miles a year. I am even thinking about ordering a 25 but have no idea how long it would take to get one. Oh the decisions we have to make. Forum is a great source of knowledge though and I appreciate everyone sharing their reviews of both.

A hybrid will be better at getting the load moving no matter how heavy it is. The instant torque of the electric combined with the 2.5 maxes at a pretty low RPM. This also reflected in the fact that the CV axle problems are more frequent in the hybrid than the EB. I would generally agree that the higher the speeds the more the EB would be the better performer, but those speeds are higher than 45-60 MPH depending on many other environmental factors.
CV axles not failing due to hybrid curve. CV axles in hybrids are different than in EB.

They were changed for 2025 so the 2022-2024 are the ones stuck with the old design until they fail.

Hybrids do phenomenally well in Western NC (speaking from experience).

I would not buy a 24 hybrid at this point. The 25s are available to order and come with upgraded CV axles and larger AGM 12v. Plus sync 4 and a host of other changes

I see you list potential negatives for the hybrid, but not for the Ecoboost. I think you have your answer.

One thing I would add here is that the FWD Lariat hybrid is now a thing of the past. If for whatever reason you may not want AWD and all the opportunities it may bring, you will now be limited to the lessor trim levels if you get a '25. To get a new FWD Lariat hybrid you will have to find a '24 currently at a dealer.

I did not know that they changed the cv's and the battery in the 25's. I did not mention EB problems but I know they had cv failures as well. Also, I saw a few transmission related issues on them as well as battery sleep modes with them. I agree that it is probably not smart to buy a 24 lariat, I think I will pass on going to drive the two today. One thing I am not happy about is the delete of the manual knobs for heat/air on the 25's, the touch screen controls seem like it may be an issue at some point. In my search I drove a 24 Santa Cruz turbo and it had plenty of power, but all the controls were on the touch screen, which I do not care for. Also, the SC has issues as well, and I prefer the maverick over the SC 100%. I appreciate the comments from everyone, and I believe the right thing for me is to look at ordering a 25 hybrid.

I agree with your conclusion! The MY25 hybrid AWD should fit your needs. I would recommend getting a Ford extended warranty from Granger Ford...they sell it for $25 over cost!
