With my 1UP rack setup, I no longer have access to lower my tailgate. I did have a 6” lower extender attached to it to address the issue and it did work but then I got a warning from a police officer because the rack obscured my license plate. I know I have the option for a license plate holder that attaches to the 1UP rack but I haven’t got around to buying that piece yet.
good to know thanks. It would take all my mental capacity to remember not to open the tailgate when that rack is there. still think I want one though

Hmm, I swear with my 1Up lowered with tire arms stowed the liftgate just clears it, barely. I'll have to check again tonight. Have not checked with the Kuat.
That would be great if it clears.

Been had my eye on a 1Up. Curious when the bike is unloaded can you open tailgate without it hitting the rack? Looks like it would clear ok based on the pic
If you get the 1 1/4" bar on the 1Up rack you can flip it in the supplied 2" adapter to give enough clearance for the tailgate to be lowered to the mid position. With the "rotation stopper bolts" removed and the bike rack rotated down you can lower the tailgate all the way.

Cheers.

I'm sure there's going to be a bunch of other aftermarket bed rack systems. But just to name a few reputable and highly durable system. Go with your gut feeling, and that may also depends on how you're going to approach overlanding options you have in your books. I need an enclosed set up this time around because I can't stand not having the security of an open bed rack system anymore. Especially you have some valuable belongings sitting in the back of your bed. Factor that with people stealing stuff. I love camping and I can't even wait for the next rig setup.
I see you point, I'm accustomed to have everything enclosed in the jeep, so I need to give this some more thought. I like the smart cap brand for enclosed security, but they don't make them for Mavericks.
