I think I've figured it out, but I could be in error. It seems to do this sometimes if I've opened the back door and left something on the floor there. If I open the door and then close it, the alert is not repeated. I suspect that its trying to tell me that I should check for a child or something in the back seat. Why they can't put a warning on the dash then they do that just to give me a clue seems like yet another software fault.

I had nothing on back seat. Only thing I did was quickly park off open. Could be too quick for the vehicle to recognize true status.

I had the same problem. Couldn't figure out why, until someone on this forum mentioned:

Disable "mislock chirp". It is in the vehicle settings menu on the gauge cluster. (Menu->Vehicle->Locks)

So:

It appears the problem is that, usually when in a hurry, when putting your hand behind the inside door handle you end up accidentally tapping the lock button (which is right behind the handle = not great design), all while opening the door. The truck sees this as a "mislock" and honks twice to warn you.

When you disable that setting, this seemingly random honk upon exit goes away, so ultimately it wasn't random after all!

Cheers!

25 Maverick Tremor here. I can confirm it still does this. I don't know why it does. It's after I park, turn off the engine with the start stop button, and open the door. My first guess was that I was hitting the lock button near the door handle with my finger as I went to open the door. When I try to do that intentionally it doesn't happen. My other guesses were that it since my keys were in my right pocket, it thinks the keys are still in the truck. Also another possibility may be that I'm still holding the foot brake as I begin to open the door. When I simultaneously open the door and let go of the foot brake, the truck rolls just slightly and it thinks I'm opening the door while the vehicle is moving.

I have the same issue on a 23 Lariat with all updates done. I'm positive that it has nothing to do with where your fingers are or where your keys are as you open the door. I have a suspicion that it is somehow determining that you need to check the back seat for a child or something similar, but it only happens randomly. Having a notice come up on the dash explaining what the potential issue is would be really helpful.

2025 XLT ecoboost. I've had this happen more than once but it's sporadic (and almost always in my garage while the family is sleeping). I'll park and turn the engine off with my fob in my pocket and open my door. HONK HONK. Nothing displayed on the dash explaining wtf the honks are for. Just random. I'm not pressing the lock button on the fob nor on the door. I've already disabled the double honk when leaving the running vehicle in forscan but do not see any options for disable mislock in the settings menu from the steering wheel/cluster. Really enjoying this truck but these random honks are aggravating as hell.

HOW DOES THE REAR OCCUPANT ALERT SYSTEM WORK

The system monitors when rear doors have been opened and closed to indicate the potential presence of an occupant in the rear seat.
A message displays in the information and entertainment display screen and an audible warning sounds when you switch the ignition off after any of the following conditions have been met:
  • A rear door is opened or closed while the ignition is on.
  • You switch the ignition on within 15 minutes of a rear door opening and closing.
  • You switch the ignition on within 15 minutes of the alert having displayed or sounded.

SWITCHING REAR OCCUPANT ALERT SYSTEM ON AND OFF

  1. Press Settings on the touchscreen.
  1. Press Vehicle.
  1. Switch Rear Occupant Alert on or off.
Note: The default setting is on.
Note: Performing a system reset causes the system to switch on again.
Semiannual Reminder (If Equipped)
When you switch the system off, a message appears every six months as a reminder that the system is off. You can switch the system back on or leave it off.

Mislock is when a door, hood, or tailgate really isn't closed, and you go for a lock.
That's the chirp on fob lock.

That Feedback option is the one when you double-press fob lock, and also gives a honk.

So if the Mislock option solved it - the system must be seeing a lock request while it sees a door open.
Either of those things could be faulty then.
