We went to the dealership this weekend to talk about the possibility of dropping the extras off of our truck in order to get our order going( FYI we did not drop anything) We were told that since our deposit check has not been returned that's a good sign. We still might get our truck this year. Any news or thoughts on this?

This makes zero sense, you did not place a deposit with Ford, you placed a deposit with your dealership. Ford has nothing to do with a deposit, an order is placed in the system without the need for any deposit. Sounds like your sales person is just making stuff up.

Your dealership has no control over how your car being built. A lot of us has been waiting forever and stuffing money in the dealer's pocket won't make the process go any faster. Put as much as you want but when it's time to take it back because the dealer goes south then it's gonna be a nightmare. This is what happens when the dealer starts marking up on your custom order. Don't put in any $$ if they don't require it.

Maybe I missed it, but have there been reports of dealers cancelling deals and refusing to return the deposit?

I've seen reports from folks who were worried about getting their deposit back, but not reports from folks who actually lost theirs.

I'm curious about the circumstances that lead to that. Could you post a link to folks who've reported losing (or even having to fight for) their deposit? Thanks.

I think I did a poor job of explaining. When we ordered our truck, the dealership required a $500 deposit, no problem. Last week I received an email from Ford. It said they were sorry for all the delays and if we wanted to drop the luxury or copilot options we might get our truck sooner. So I took the email to our dealership. He was surprised that he had not received one. We then told him we were not dropping any options. He said ok we went home. The next day he called and told us he had talked to a dealer from a much larger place. They told him some people had their deposits returned and didn't know why. So our dealer thought maybe it was a good sign they still have ours. FYI we have not thrown any money to anyone for our truck other then the deposit.

The story still doesn't make sense, if the deposit was returned it was by the dealer, not Ford. Ford has nothing to do with a deposit on a Maverick. Your sales person as well as whoever they spoke with at the larger dealer are both uninformed. Ford has said they will most likely build all 2022 orders, I would just sit tight and see what happens. I wouldn't remove anything from your order.

Ford does not accept deposits from end customers when placing an order for a vehicle.

The dealer places the order with Ford, essentially agreeing to buy it from the factory.

The dealer then agrees to sell that vehicle to you. As part of the process, some dealers collect a deposit, subject to whatever terms the customer and dealer agree to and any applicable laws. Some dealers may claim this to be non-refundable, or only under specific circumstances.

The collecting and handling of a deposit have nothing to do with the actual order between the dealer and factory.

The dealer could up and decide to refund your deposit at any time even though the vehicle is still on order and you end up buying it.

The dealer refunding a deposit or not means whatever the dealer wants it to mean. And dealers are independently owned and operated, not controlled by Ford Motor Company, so if you want to know about a deposit, you need to talk to the dealer who made up the rules for the dealer's deposit.

I get it. I didn't stop and think about the fact it wasn't Ford asking for the deposits. Maybe he was joking lol. I didn't remove anything. I'm just going to wait it out. Thank You

I understood your story pretty well. I was replying to @Maverick2023's comment, not to your post.

He was suggesting that people will have (or have had) trouble getting deposits back if the deal gets cancelled. I was just asking if that has actually happened.

Unless some dealers screwed up and didn't to the ROVP process so they know that certain orders will not be built....and they are refunding those deposits?
OR they are doing something dishonest and telling people that their orders won't be built so that they can hike the price up and sell to someone else?
