Does living in a hot climate shorten the battery life?

I don't know squat about Hybrids, but I ordered an XLT Hybrid in Oxford White. Wasn't my first color choice but I want to keep any high voltage components as cool as possible, especially considering AC is run on electric. Not much shade in my driveway and no garage.

Ford has thousands of batteries in the Mexican desert parking lots for a few months.

Woops ... My XL has been parked out there since September. I suppose that the li-ion battery is covered by the 8yr/100k mile warranty.
