I bought the XL hybrid as a do it all commuter. Great gas mileage for my daily commute and the added benefit of putting hundreds of pounds of dirty stuff in the bed. For that use case scenario , it has been the perfect vehicle for my needs.

The EB Maverick is perfect if you want AWD or need to tow.

Ideally I would love an AWD hybrid but FWD with decent tires will suffice for now

I didn't say require. But it does best with it and was designed to use it. The have tuned it so it can run on other levels but you lose performance and mileage.

I have no regrets going with the EcoBoost, 4K, and FX4.
I don't tow often and typically it's a small utility trailer with a max load of 1 ton. Mileage is still OK and is better than the Escape I gave up for the Maverick.
If I had it to do over again I would add the spray in bed liner and change to the aluminum tonneau cover.

I average between 33 and 35 on the highway running the 87 octane. If/when I have heavy work for it to do, I'm not opposed to running higher octane fuel but so far there's been no reason to. the 87 works fine.

internally I’m saying; If I can avg around 30 eco with 4k/awd it’d check every box but the reality is; Im 76mph with adaptive cruise on the highway. Plus being in nyc often bring mpg down to low 20’s I’d guess. Not mention I live in rolling hills with occasional snow.

hybrid- more practical no doubt but how many times will I be wishing I had the more powerful motor and awd.

And is 360 co pilot assist worth getting the lariat package for? I’m thinking because of my long commute.

Cheers
I am getting 30 mpg avgon my eco 4k tow. And yes get the 360 and adaptive cruise control. Driving in NYC you would prob ger less. But my 22 eco had one recall for the blinker. Hybrids seem to have more issues.

Not sure where that math comes from- every tank of gas costs the same, it's the mileage you get out of it. Just going factory mixed MPG numbers, the Hybrid gets 481 miles off 13gallons, the AWD gets only 351 miles from the same 13 gallons.

So you'd have to put in another 4.8 gallons into the AWD to go the same distance as the hybrid. At $3(US)/ gallon that's $14 extra every tank of gas the hybrid uses.
-Driving 10k miles/ year that's 270 gallons hybrid, 370 gallons AWD
-again at $3/gallon that's $810 per year hybrid, $1,110 AWD. Over 5 years the difference is the cost of the hybrid option over the FWD version. 😂

Yes the AWD is a huge advantage in many climates. If I needed a new minivan for sure I'd get the Sienna (hybrid AWD) and hope to some day get a hybrid AWD Maverick...
Will,

Yes, your math is more accurate. To recap what you wrote, someone driving 10k miles/yr will have to put 100 more gallons into the AWD. At $3/ gallon, that equals $300 more fuel cost per year for the AWD, or $1500 over 5 years.

So if you pay +$1500 for the hybrid version, averaging 10k miles per year takes 5 years to break even on hybrid fuel savings.

Of course, driving more miles/year, the break even may only be 3 or 4 years. The bummer is buying the hybrid to get to this break even point means you miss out on several years of more adventures and capability on or off road with the AWD version.

Yes, if Ford ever releases a Mav hybrid AWD, the question about which version to choose goes away.

I’m noticing it’s cheaper to buy hybrid when building a lariat…

Yeah....but think about it. Most people would have this question answered to themselves even before they posted this. You KNOW what you want. Just do it. One post is not going to change your mind. Get the one YOU want and sleep good. I love my Hybrid. Will never get the Eco...in the Mav. See how easy that was. :like: :like: :like:
