I wish when they design these things they'd include a smaller access panel specifically for oil changes. My wife's 2020 Rav 4 has one of these smaller access panels and it only requires removing like, five or six fasteners.
I agree! My current car has a small panel for the oil filter and another for the plug

I am surprised you had to top off the cooling system with coolant. I believe they do not come up to their max level out of the factory.
I guess you had some available so why not...
I agree but maybe it came a little low from the factory

Have you tried to loosen the filter a little by hand (or wrench), then use a plastic cup over the filter while loosening it the rest of the way to avoid dripping oil onto the pan, the floor, and yourself? Saw it on TikTok, looked like it might work...

It was just a little low and needed topping off, not all that uncommon for a small amount to be needed at maintenance intervals. Here in AZ where we have 110-115 degree days for a month or so, it's very common for a small amount to migrate to the universe.

@Shay

Thank you for this video. I did my first oil change on the hybrid Maverick today at about 10890 mileage (with about 17% life left).

All was easy but would recommend a bar for leverage. The factory torqued the drain plug on super tight. I resorted to using a breaker bar for initial loosening. I also had a claw type filter wrench that was clutch in this case.

Outside of the bizillion underpan cover bolts , the job is super easy. As an aside, the cover was already drilled out underneath for the recall( must have been done by the dealer when the truck arrived in Aug. 2022).

This is certainly not the first oil change video or tutorial out there, but it's my first oil change on our long-term test hybrid along with other major first service maintenance items.

Great video. I will be doing the second oil change myself this weekend. At 15,000 miles. Oil life monitor says its time. I let the dealer do the first oil change a year ago at 6,500 miles. They wanted to put in synthetic blend and not full sysnthetic oil in my hybrid. I insisted on full synthetic and paid extra. I've been changing the oil in my cars since my first car 50 years ago and I will continue to do so because then I know top quality products were used and it was done right!

Just curious about this. Your dealer was going to use a blend as opposed to full synthetic? I wouldn't think a dealer would do this.

I only ask as I usually do my own changes also but since I have points from buying my Maverick, I was thinking I'd let them do the first couple with the points.

You'll find many posts where despite the manual and likely their system stating full synthetic - the "special" is only blend, or the work order actually says blend was to be used and was used.

Then when asked - and they'll claim the mistake was on the service manager and wrong thing written in the work order - but the tech actually put in the correct full syn despite what was written on their work order.

Ya - real believable.
Dealers absolutely not doing it correct is common.
Especially if you bring in a coupon, go for the special, use points - and do NOT specifically state what you want and confirm it's on the work order before.

Yes, he was going to use the blend and not even the correct viscosity! Thats why other than warranty work, I'll never let the dealer touch my Mav again!
