Make sure you’re pulling the bolt towards you, with those ears tight against the metal as you’re tightening (don’t let it twist at all)

I bought the $20.58 version from eBay. Took 10 minutes or less to install, nothing loose yet. Works great and I couldn't be more pleased. I had a damped open for 7 years before I got the Maverick and had the bruises to show I was not remembering to hold the tailgate going down. If the wing nut is backwards with the round part touching the metal instead of the wings with the gripper teeth you will never get it to stay tight.
