Disappointed in tailgate assist.

So if my bracket doesn’t move when I try to pull it, is it safe to assume that but is seated correctly in the tailgate ?

I didn’t do any kind of pulling towards me when installing, so I didn’t even think of getting it seated.

That's a maybe. It might be just barely catching. It isn't hard to see if it is twisted and lined up to catch the groove. I'd re-check it to make sure it is in place properly. It isn't terribly hard...it just requires a bit of care to get the notch in place and then the pressure pulling the plate away as you tighten it will keep it lined up properly.

1 year and 2 months and mine has never come loose. They are a pain in the arse to install.

Have had mine on for 8 months - in cold weather it takes its own sweet time to drop but still working good I guess.

Way too much Loclite on the bolt. The bolt head got stripped when tightening with 5mm allen key. Explained to deezee customer service rep. and they are going to Fedex out a new kit minus shock. We will see.

is it just me or does this look like the nut is cross threaded? that would cause big problem if so

Just this morning I was thinking of order a tailgate assist from my local Ford dealer's parts department, but after reading the above posts I think I'll take a pass, until this product gets sorted out properly.

I bought one after seeing it on sale for like 25 bucks. After reading similar posts like this I have never put it on. Maybe if it helped raising the tailgate I would install it. Prob should not have bought it.

is it just me or does this look like the nut is cross threaded? that would cause big problem if so

not so much cross threaded as hole maybe not exactly aligned on center or "nut" roughly cast giving appearance hole not aligned on axis. Threads visible on both sides of nut don't look damaged from the picture.

Coming up on a year and it's still one of the better upgrades I did. Everytime the tailgate comes down, I notice that left side cable that's too long, however. Lol

Be patient with it. Once you get it in, you will be good. I did take off a LOT of the blue locktite. Way too much, but that was easy to see BEFORE I tried to screw it in. It was the first thing I installed. I had the most trouble breaking that Torx bolt free (that holds the cable).

I had no issues installing mine, then just today it popped loose, scratching the paint as it went. Grrrrr. Contacted Dee Zee to see if they could send a new bolt, because this one stripped when I tried to reinstall it (the bolt is the problem, my tool is fine). No word yet, was gonna run all over town tomorrow to try to find a bolt, but the more I read, the more I'm thinking I'll take the $$ loss (to late to return it) and live without. Don't wanna risk my paint again!

I installed mine the second day I had the truck. No problems with it at all. I removed the blue loctite off the bolt before installation. No issues.
