There are people who seem to gain validation from playing the "mine's bigger" game. I saw one guy insist that it was a 100 hp truck. No use arguing with people who make up facts to suit their opinions. It's funny once you recognize it for what it is.

"It's a light duty truck". I'm light duty, I'm 74, I respond and laugh in their face. But the bottom line is I really do not give a shite for what the detractors have to say. If someone objectively wants to know about the truck I will share what little I know about it. :ROFLMAO:
It really is true……….

Most of the comments I get are positive. The first question they ask is if it's the hybrid? Probably because some may not be well educated and think every Maverick is a hybrid since they get more praise and you can't tell it apart visually from an Ecoboost. But I have gotten some hate. My former coworker's boyfriend called it a minivan with a bed and refused to take a look at it when she asked him. Whatever. Also, people love to make others feel small so a lot of times I'll come out to my truck just to see a full-size F-150, Ram 1500, or the HD counterparts parked right on top of me to make me feel like a pipsqueak and make them feel bigger and masculine because they hate the Maverick. Just a couple of days ago at work, I had a giant Ford F-250 Super Duty parked right next to me out of any of the empty spots on that same aisle. I know they did it on purpose. Other than that, the comments are positive, mainly from retirement age guys who want something comfortable but have the added practicality of a pickup bed, something similar to what they grew up on in the 70s, 80s, or 90s.
Keep in mind……………

To belittle is to be little.

Respectfully, I encourage you to read my post again. The focus uses the c2 platform, but each vehicle on the c2 platform varies by quite a bit. You have products that are far more car like, the focus, and to a lesser extent, the escape. Then you have rugged, more capable and stronger versions of the platform, like what the bronco sport has. Bronco sport is basically c2 version 2.0, and that's closer to what the maverick is.

I'm not against the c2 architecture at all, I think it's brilliant, and has proven to be a stellar architecture with no blatant flaws. Nor do I deny the fact that c2 started with the focus. But there are quite a few people who literally think Ford just popped a truck body onto a focus platform without realizing how much extensive engineering work went into making the maverick a strong and capable truck.

It's kinda like our other car, a 5th Gen explorer, it uses the same platform as the Tarus, but it's nothing like that car.
Maverick is C-2 platform. Focus is C-2 platform. Nice work by Ford maximizing the value of the platform. I'd say Chrysler in the 80's and 90's was the master of one platform many vehicles.

I spend no time defending the Maverick, I just drive it and enjoy it. My identity is not the vehicle I drive.

Just some things I've heard detractors say about the maverick over the course of our ownership experience.

1. It's a focus based truck. Not really, it's based on a more capable and rugged version of the c2 architecture. It resembles more of a bronco sport pickup than a focus pickup.

2. It's not unreliable/poorly built. Basically all of the widespread data we have indicates the maverick in both Ecoboost, and hybrid trim, offers above average reliability. People bring this up a lot, like everything that's more affordable is somehow less reliable long term. The opposite appears to be the case, both with Ford trucks and things like Toyota corollas/Camry's. Cheaper cars ironically seem to be built better than more expensive luxury cars, speaking as an EX BMW owner here.

3. The maverick is a real truck. It may not offer the towing capacity of full-sized trucks, but payload is very respectable, surpassing some off-road versions of things like the tundra, and Silverado zr2. It can haul and tow more than most compact trucks from the 90s, the rangers and Tacomas. You know, the trucks the same people who hate the maverick are praising. It's like "Ah the maverick isn't a real truck, now this 1997 ranger that can haul five pounds before cracking in half, now that's a real man's truck". People like that who constantly prop up every old car, and bash anything modern annoy me to no end.

Sorry for the rant, let me know what maverick myths you've had to combat with others.
I LOVE my Maverick hybrid and have used it as a "real truck" to do dump runs, etc. It rides smoother than a Ranger that's for sure. Much easier to step in and out of. Not sure why anyone would mock a pickup that has very good payload capacity plus awesome MPGs even with EB! Jealous? Most people who own truck haul air most of the time anyways! My dealer's service manager gave up his Maverick to a customer (for an excellent markup to be sure) who wanted to buy it and has regretted it ever since! Lol

I tell people it is an Escape with a pickup bed, is all the truck I need and for the price, a damn good deal.
I had an 2020 Escape and my Maverick isn't even close to it on anything and especially in the handling. The Escape had a 3 cyl. engine and was a gutless wonder.

Why in the heck does anybody feel that they have to "justify" their purchase decisions? Unless the person asking is willing to write the check, tell them to 'eff off.

...but it is a Focus with a bed. Lol.

It does a lot of things like a truck. It has a bed. It has respectable payload.

But it won't tow as much, it's not as robust in its construction, and you'd very quickly run up against some of its limitations off-road.

All about what tradeoffs you want. That's why it exists along the Ranger and F series...
When I do something that would trash it out I just use my tr
I actually just hear a lot of praise for the Maverick, which makes sense considering the high demand. Size wise, its also really not exactly small, being virtually the same length as a Ford Escape, but its certainly lower than many fullsize trucks that can be a pain to jump in and out of.

Regarding reliability, Consumer Reports April 2023 issue indicates that the '22s were above average. Supposedly there are complaints about the paint and noises, which I think the forum did identify a design flaw on the passenger door card if I remember right which is probably what that is about, but that has a relatively easy fix. I see they got a small ding on the brakes, which could be the intermittent issue I've heard of the hybrid brakes sometimes being overly grabby.

"Full size" is a moving target. I had an F150 in the early seventies that was not much bigger and a Ranger in the mid nineties that was smaller.

And what is the horsepower of those vehicles they're praising vs. cost, the fuel economy, equipment, and interior room.
I suspect the Maverick is competitive if not better than most of those vehicles they wish to praise. Aside from that, just tell them; If you don't like them so much, then don't buy one, the rest of us happy owners don't mind.

I'll also add, having worked at various brand dealerships, some of those vaunted brands that many like to praise(Toyota) have more costly repairs that I've rarely seen when working at Ford dealerships. i.e. I've sold more driveshafts, rear differentials, and differential coupling units at Toyota in a month than I've sold at Ford for the past 3+ years.

Have only had mine since July 2023. Not one negative interaction. My neighbors love it, 2 of them have indicated they want one.
Mostly it's been guys with full size trucks talking. They look it over and say that's nice! Then they want to checkout the interior, more positive comments.
Really no questions about fuel economy or size.
I am along these lines. People see it and tell me it looks very nice. Those that ask about specifics are impressed. What I hear most is that they didn’t know it was a hybrid and is new to Fords line up.

since Ford is not telling on it people will confuse it with a Ranger or think it is the Lightening. I laugh, just like I do at the fuel pumps I can drive past all month long.

I’ve only ever gotten ā€œdude, how do you like that maverick? I’m thinking about ordering oneā€ comments from others.

That said, I don’t even think it’s a real ā€œtruck.ā€ It’s a Ute… that’s been crossed over with a crossover. All the benefits of the above categories with very few of the drawbacks. ;)
