People need to quit paying such high markups. It’s just a truck. In 5-8 years you won’t care about it and will regret paying 10k over msrp. In fact, to Future You it will seem like sheer lunacy that you ever even considered that. Don’t overpay. Better not to have one, or just buy something else. I don’t blame the sellers in the free market maximizing profit (owners or dealers). The blame is on the people paying markup.
I paid over MSRP for the Area 51 Maverick Hybrid First Edition that I purchased because:
  • I needed a replacement for my Prius-C very soon.
  • My wife will need a replacement for her Impala within a year.
  • After more than a year of market research, the Maverick Hybrid matches up perfectly with our needs and the way we use our vehicles.
  • Even though I have two Maverick Hybrids on order (one for me, one for her), I have no clue if I'll get even one order fulfilled, and the odds are REALLY low that we would get BOTH of them.
  • I can afford the price (including ADM) without financing any portion of it.
  • This particular truck had every single feature and option we wanted.
Yes, it's "just a truck," but even at the marked-up price, I considered it an acceptable value. In both of our opinions, the Maverick Hybrid is worth more than Ford's MSRP. If I could have found one at (or near) MSRP, I would have bought it. I could not find such a vehicle – despite 4 months of daily searching and calling every dealership within 500 miles of my home. Thus we decided that the "true market price" within that 500-mile radius is well above MSRP at this point. That may change in the future - so be it.

My wife (the only other person with a vote) encouraged me to go ahead and get this one, even with ADM, based on the reasons above. We are both very happy with the Maverick. You may disagree with our decision to pay more than MSRP, and that's fine. I'm not trying to talk you into doing so. But I could not possibly care less about YOUR opinion about how we choose to spend OUR money. Have a great day.

Looks really good tire + rims + color well done
Thank you for the kudos. I just need to drop it with 2"-3" drop kit. Its AWD 4K. I bought it with that setup only for the extra cooling and gear ratio lol.

Everyone's opinion differs on weather or not to spend the money on the ADM. To us it was not worth it. To you it was. It's all good.

You cant rest it all on the dealers . you have a fair amount of buyers ,being incentivized by these markups . I have a 22 lariat eco boost. My sales guy is a friend he begged me to order a lightning I didn't. While I am picking up my wifes Mach E .My friend walks me out to a lightning in the lot .A guy paid 77k for the truck(msrp) the dealer offered him 100k he took it and the dealer flipped it 4 hours later for 118k. Nov 13 2021 I order my wife a 2022 Mach E premium . Car arrives July 27th 2023 lucky me .My dealer charges me MSRP .I use x plan no bullshit no problems . I go to the finance guy to pay for the Mach E my friend the sales guy and sales manager come in and say, look Joe we have crazy demand we will stroke you a check for 10k to leave the Mach E here,I declined as my wife wanted the car . THIS IS the free market stop blaming dealers , all you have to do is SAY NO THANKS .I wont pay that . They are like any business they are there to make max profit . Nobody bitches at APPLE $1100 for a base model i phone 14 pro max AND THEY DONT even give you a charger . apple pays less than $350 to produce the phone.............. FACT

Hey friend. Sorry if my tone came off the wrong way. I work with a lot of people to rebuild their lives after bankruptcy, etc. I like the logic you laid out above. I think this is your strongest point for sure:
  • I can afford the price (including ADM) without financing any portion of it.
—-I know you don’t care about my opinion (you definitely should not) but if the value added proposition is there for you, and you can pay cash for it, then I am on board! -onward!

I agree. My XLT 4K I wrote a check for it. I planned on waiting a year for the Maverick fever to die down before securing an ecoboost XL for my wife. The problem was that the van wasnt going to last that long. Its had a top end rattle for about 6 months only on startup. 2 weeks ago it started doing it full time. I have been tracking ferrous metal particles in the oil filters on this vehicle the last 6 months. It has been getting progressively worse.

A top end overhaul on a Chrysler 3.6L 4 cam VVT engine is not my idea of fun, nor do I have the time for it. Dropping it off at Dodge was going to be $2400. The trade in was only worth $2400. In the industry I work in that means its junk. Cost to repair equals its residual value. I have cut up $50,000 aircraft parts without any care, and retired the serial numbers because the repair costs of the component exceeded its value $$$ wise. Van was not any different.

Interest rate on the car, and I have great credit low 800s was 8.74%. They arent going to get much of that from me. I will pay it off in less than a year. I will write on the checks "use additional funds towards principal only".

Solid! No doubt that interest is the enemy. Pay that guy off ASAP and have fun! Most of my clients suffering the most are lower-middle class and middle class who are leveraged to the hilt with shiny toys that are drowning them alive. Interest is the great enemy.

Yup. Bought my home with 50% down on a 30 year note, made sure amount of the monthly payment with escrow was the same as my apartment rent. payed it off in 10 years. I never let loans run full length.

Get over it. It's business. Dealers ain't the red cross.
True! But, with new ordering model of buying vehicles I struggle to find the need for dealers.

Ok. Let's imagine a world with no dealers, just service centers. You buy online and the vehicle is delivered to you.

What makes you think the manufacturers won't jack up the MSRP when supply is tight, or a certain vehicle or option package is red hot? Or if you want it RIGHT NOW.

They will. Think about airlines. Typically, you "buy direct". Do they play games? Oh boy, do they play games. Is it pleasant? Not at all.

In a way, manufacturers already do that. That's what incentives (rebates) are for.

It's just that when the manufacturer sells directly to consumers, they can either straight up change the advertised/list price (Tesla changes MSRP at least as often as Ford), or again use rebates/incentives/discounts at time of sale (Tesla occasionally offers discounts or throws in things like Supercharger credits) to reduce the selling price.

With the dealer as a middleman, that's an additional layer where the price can be increased.

Even Apple, traditionally stingy with deals, has often offered various promotions and things like educational pricing when buying direct from them. One shouldn't expect any different from direct sales of cars.

Yup. I work for an airline. Flying standby ain't much better. It used to be a perk of the job. Now they pack em in so tight, it's hard to get a seat. Your best bet is to plan your vacation 6 months out, and buy your tickets then when they are cheaper. I honestly dont know why they vary the ticket price making it go up higher as you get closer to departure. I just drill holes make repair patches and hammer rivets in the damn things. When they over book the flight and want to give you a $200 voucher and put you up in the Radisson for a night. If you want to get them to stop this practice of overbooking everything. tell them NO! I payed for this flight, and I want on it. If enough people do it, maybe they will take a hint.

As far as doing MFGR direct to consumer I can definitely see the price jacking happening. They do it now to a small degree every year as costs for everything goes up. Honestly though, how much do any of you think it costs to build and ship one of these with the sheer volume of em they make.

I get it the company has to get back the costs spent on the R&D since it's a new model. This is why carmakers reuse a lot of existing parts bin parts. Heck the first mustangs were nothing more than a lowly ford falcon in sexy body work. They all do it. These trucks are an extended wheelbase escape. My 2 old barracudas are plymouth valiants underneath. Once the R&D is recouped, theres a lot of profit going on. It's used to pay employees, keep the lights on, and kick out dividend checks to shareholders.

But yes I can see price bumps from the manufacturer based on vehicle popularity. Dont like it, walk away like I did. I am happy with my Granger deal, and my wife is happy with her practically brand new Chevy Impala. Price bumps can also drive away a lot of people too. Its apparently driving people away from the dealerships doing the ADM. I guess if you gotta really have the latest greatest shiny thing you can pay it. Me, if the Granger deal disnt pop up, I was content to drive my 2008 chevy HHR another year or 2 until the hoopla over these died down. I mean its payed for.

True.

I do feel that the dealers kind of keep the manufacturers "in line" to a certain extent.

I say that because the dealer is really the manufacturer's customer. And the dealers (as a group) have quite a bit of power.

In a way, manufacturers already do that. That's what incentives (rebates) are for.

If you have the $ and don't care what it cost's... good on you. I personally do, but am still a cheap fkr ;)
not much excites me enough to pay crazy money for it. A good steak cooked on my grill is well worth the $100+ savings (to me)
