9000 miles is a true used car that was traded in. A “used“ car with only 14 miles likely never left the dealer’s lot after arriving.
Agree, used no question about it. And not to split hairs it may have been purchased outright by the dealer, rather than a trade-in for another vehicle. But to address your original post. The vehicles you refer to as low mileage and used could have easily been bought and sold by individuals playing the system. Again a free market that one can take a risk and participate in if one chooses to do so.

Spoke with someone at Gary Yeomans Ford in Daytona while I was waiting for delivery and he said that everyone that works there was instructed to order a Maverick in different trim levels to be sold as dealer stock. Yes they are all marked up excessively. I have always thought of car dealerships as scams and thieves and these markups are just putting it out there with no shame. I'd rather just order online and have it delivered to the house going forward. I know the whole "but your putting an entire industry out of jobs" and to that I say good. Find a more honest line of work.

This is my biggest problem with the current way Ford is handling ordering. Dealers have no reason to not screw up or delay customer orders. Every canceled order is another $5k-10k in their pocket. And it's probably the easiest thing for Ford to fix: when a customer backs out of an order, take them out of the scheduling system. If the truck is already scheduled, find another exact order and send it to that person. If there isn't an exaxt order, send it to a random dealer so the cancellation dealer isn't benefiting.
People need to quit paying such high markups. It’s just a truck. In 5-8 years you won’t care about it and will regret paying 10k over msrp. In fact, to Future You it will seem like sheer lunacy that you ever even considered that. Don’t overpay. Better not to have one, or just buy something else. I don’t blame the sellers in the free market maximizing profit (owners or dealers). The blame is on the people paying markup.

Local ford dealer did that with full size Broncos right when they came out. They had every employee order one. Ford motor caught them told the dealer they cannot sell them for a year or Ford will pull their franchise rights. These things now have to sit behind a fence until they are a year old.

My wife wanted a maverick. I found 3 in her trim level and color in Texas. All 3 dealers wanted $5K ADM on top of MSRP. One was $400 miles away and wanted an additional $2900 for some bullshit vehicle protection plan. We said no. I found her a loaded 2015 Chevy Impala LT with only 17,800 miles on it. Beautiful car in "granny gold" paint. Payed $18,400 with the ole minivan "toaster" ewwtrade in, and bought that for her. She drives a much nicer vehicle than the XL she originally wanted. I commented that the Impala is like a working man's S class benz.

So a second maverick is not going to happen in our household. I was willing to do $24k out the door on a maverick for her, but their greed they lost out, she got a vehicle shes very happy with that I found locally, and I spent less money than I would have. Now my iconic silver XLT beauty, I love my truck. Its fantastic!! I will likely keep it a long time. I mean I still have my 1994 Silverado C1500 pickup.

I guess the key thing is you (wife in particular) are happy. If I wanted a truck, but just needed a vehicle, the solution you came up with works for you. It would not for me. While I agree ADM is not the way to go, buying an 8 year old car for the price would not work for me. Again, that solution apparently meant your need. But a truck versus a car brings up another conversation.

We have 2 trucks. A full size Silverado with 8' bed, and the Maverick. Plus we own a Chevy HHR, and a 2007 mustang GT. The Maverick was more of a want for her, and not necessarily a need, since she already has 2 trucks she can choose from. Yes the impala is 8 years old, but only has 17,800 on its odometer. What your not seeing is the bigger picture. Some people put that kind of mileage on a car in just 1 years time. As a matter of fact the average yearly mileage is 15,000 miles. As far as the odometer goes we bought a 1.5 year old car in terms of mileage, wear, and tear. That happens to be physically 8 years old. I'm betting it was an old person's car that was garage kept, and they didnt go hardly anywhere with it. Paint and interior are perfect. No wear on any of it at all. Like showroom new. That my friend is what is known as a "creme puff".

My garage kept 2007 mustang GT has only 13,000 miles on it yet it's 15 years old. Would that make it a bad deal for somebody if I sold it today? Nope, it would be sold in a heartbeat. It's practically a new 15 year old car. The KBB value on that year and optioned impala with 80,000 miles on it shows to be worth $20,000. Ours just flipped to 18,000 miles. We got a hell of a deal.

The only downside to this transaction is the factory warranty has expired due to physical age, not mileage. I'm a mechanic by trade. The lack of a warranty on it doesnt bother me. That and the fact that these are one of the most reliable vehicles on the road. My wife and I have 4 different daily driver vehicles to choose from depending on what we need it for. The mustang is a fair weather weekend only car. We are not vehicle poor by any means.

Oh I saw the big picture. Again, that solution worked for you. A truck wanted versus a car purchased would not for me. No worries from me. I see you already have a truck so the ”need” for the Maverick truck was probably not there as much. So, a car would suffice for a vehicle. I think it has been documented that used car prices have been inflated…although they are trending down some. You really didn’t need to defend yourself. Of course, I didn’t need to jump in either. Your happy with your choice and I’m happy with mine.

I just started looking for a Mav, this past Monday,
Local dealer had only one, but it was what I was looking for, but was told it had a recall and wont be available until Feb. 2023. Was told by the Sales manger and a salesmen, about folks putting only a few miles on these and than filliping them.
Wednesday, talked to a guest at a Christmas party who had just bought one from his hometown.
Called that dealer, Thursday. And talked with him about a similar Mav. He said the same thing about things being nuts.
His markup was less, so I found a buddy to ride shot-gun on short notice.
And I picked it up, yesterday.

It's all good. No worries. Price didnt figure in that much, the low miles did. Her average of 8K to 10K per year, we are ahead of the curve on this one. You cant buy a new car for that price. Nothing with the features and content that this one has at that price. It has bluetooth connectivity, Sirius XM, hands free phone communication.

Her phone is Synched to the car. Does everything electronically that the maverick does for me, which was one of the reasons she wanted a maverick in the first place. It will take 8-9 years for her to get it to 100K, and possibly time for trade in. I wont have the loan on this one long. I did 5 years to keep the monthly payment on it low, but by december 2023 it will be payed off.

I average about 9 miles one way to work daily, and I balance that between my 94 chevy silverado and the maverick. I rarely go anywhere else since my free time/hobby is spent in my home shop doing auto restoration work. If I end up putting 4K on my Maverick per year, that will be a lot. As a matter of fact the most miles I did on this new truck at one time was 820 miles in 2 days driving it home from Granger Iowa.

Heres some pix of my Maverick and my other rides. Project is a 1969 Barracuda 340-S sport coupe. The Dodge Caravan I regarded an appliance. A "toaster" if you will. It fit a need as a kid mover. No more or less. That need is no longer necessary.

Ok, we are all good. What brand of wheels are on the Maverick? I intend to change my steelies out in the spring and wanted a wheel with dark in the middle with silver on the rim. I actually like the old Cragar(?) style too but I’m still searching.

I always loved the older 80s BBS style wheels. When I saw the Circuit performance wheels, I got these exact wheels shown when they were $629 a set of 4. The listing was originally for focus RS. Heres current price. I have also seen this wheel offered with white, silver, and black centers. I like it having a little bit of a deep offset on the lip.

I peeled the circuit performance logo off the snap on center caps, removed the residual glue with adhesive remover, and bought 63mm blue Ford logo domed stick on caps off a seller on ebay. I glued them onto the original snap in center with a glob of silicone. People have asked me if those are OEM Ford rims. The cap throws them off. These rims are 18" and the tire size is a 245/55R18. This equates to the same outside tire diameter as the stock 17" continentals these trucks come with, along with a more aggressive width. This keeps the acceleration performance the same, and the speedometer the same. Next step is an Eibach lowering spring kit. Sitting in my shop when I get the time to do it.

With these tires they stick past the wheel well only maybe 3/8". I added on RokBlokz mudflaps and all is good. You will need spline lug nuts for these. The stock lug nuts are too fat for the holes, along with hub centric rings for the wheel hub. They dontcome with the wheels since every manufacturers vehicle hub is for the most part different. I bought the spline lug nuts, and aluminum hub centric rings directly from circuit performance , along with a spare spline socket to keep in my shop tool cabinet.

Hope this helps
Matt
