Just posting this to see if anyone else has run into this. I recived another letter from Ford stating that the parts for my curtain airbag replacement under recall are now avaialble. I called my dealer to have them ordered and I was told that they cannot order them unless they are deployed. I told him that was BS and not what the letter from Ford stated. Has anyone ran into this? Should I call another dealership?
I actually have an appointment for this upcoming Sunday, to drop off my Maverick for the side airbag recall repair. It's going to Peoria Ford where I purchased it from near a year ago.
They are more than willing to perform this recall repair, with no hassles given to me what so ever.
All they said was that it will probably be with them about 3-4 days.

And yes, my 1st recall notice for airbags came in September, and just last Monday I received the second notice from Ford saying the parts are now available.
Just so happened to be the same day I made the appointment for the repair.
I was in for an oil change last week, and the service manager had mentioned that the parts were ready now.

You need to call your dealership out!

Welcome to the Ford dealer service network. "(Incompetence) is Job 1"
Took 2 hours to change a flat tire. They didn't know how to put the spare back. Pulled my truck up said done. Asked my husband to check to see if they put the spare under the truck right nope it was not fastened it would have dropped out on the road when I left. My husband and manager got underneath the truck and fixed it before I left thank God he was with me!!!!

Not gonna wade through every post in the entire 6-page thread, but I called my dealer this morning, and while they understandably didn't have the parts in stock, they have ordered the parts and will contact me when the parts arrive to confirm an appointment. I plan to check back with them in two weeks if I haven't heard from them by then.

Does this mean I have to take them the letter? I just scheduled the work, but they put the appointment off for two weeks to be sure they got the parts. It was the second time I called the dealer to do the work.
No, you shouldn't need to show them the letter. Dealers can confirm you have the recall by looking up your VIN.

I don’t understand the inconsistencies with this. I went to my local dealer (not where I bought my Mav) around Thanksgiving for the fire hazard recall and they ordered the airbags as well since the recall showed up in the system for my vehicle. They called three weeks later and I took it in for the replacement. About 4 hours ant the dealer and it was done.
Parts availability / ordering processes can change based on supply and demand... I can't recall whether what the parts ordering requirements were in Nov. I think that the parts would have still been "seed stock" only for non-deployed sold vehicles, so they probably just waited until seed stock came in and set some aside for you.

This is sort of making sense now. I contacted my dealer to have the recall addressed and they required a pre-visit to open a RO. After talking to the service manager, it appears all they needed to order parts was the mileage off my truck. Now it is a matter of waiting to see how long it takes to get the parts.
Mine parts arrived the day after I ordered them. I think most dealerships will get parts next day.

Called my dealer yesterday and the service advisor started to tell me that they didn't know when parts would be back in stock. I mentioned SSSC and the RO attachment. He went and talked to Parts and now I'm scheduled for the inspection visit on Friday morning. They will then order the parts and call me to schedule the work when the parts arrive.

I dont personally care if they get replaced or not - it isnt like the airbags dont work -

The lawsuit – John Solak v. Ford Motor Company, The lawsuit claims that Ford’s fix – replacing the airbags with a revised design – doesn’t guarantee that the problem will be rectified, as the automaker hasn’t yet figured out the root cause.

The side curtain airbags present in the Ford Maverick were discovered to be defective during an audit by the (NHTSA) in which the agency found that the displacement results for the front lower primary target was 111.9 millimeters, which is beyond the federal regulation limit of 100 mm – as well as Ford’s own initial test results of 82.5-88.4 mm.

The original airbag failed by 11.9 millimeters which is 0.4685039 of an inch. Now - hold out your fingers over a tape measure and open your digits to just under 1/2 inch. do you really think that a side airbag deployment 0.4685039 of an inch less is the difference between life or death ? Snowflakes LOL - when I was a kid the "airbag" was my mothers arm as she reached over and tried to stop me from flying into the dash - hahahaha My first truck was a 68 Chevy pickup no airbags, no padded dash, no seat belts, no energy absorbing bumpers, no AC, 3 on the tree and "possibly" safety glass - I'm not going to worry bout a secondary airbag that is 1/2 inch less or more on deployment.

If it weren't important, Ford and their suppliers wouldn't be manufacturing 130,000 airbags and replacing them free of charge under a recall. We're talking about millions of dollars here in parts and labor.

The recall was updated 1/25/23.

Ford Maverick Dealer Wont Replace Airbags Under Recall! 1675824929906

If you don't stay on top of all the recalls, you would miss it. Most service departments seem to have issues keeping up with recalls. I don't know what to tell you. As for ordering, Ford has a bad habit of not telling you what you need. This is what they say:

Ford Maverick Dealer Wont Replace Airbags Under Recall! 1675825155981

But it won't work unless you submit a pic, of anything really, it just has to be a pic before they will accept the order. Just another unknown hoop we have to jump through to just get recall parts. @KevCuRaoi Can attest to the fun.

BTW had my airbags replaced today, Fjord pays tech 1 hour, takes about 3 hours to do.

1/2 inch less might not be an issue since it would still meet Ford specs, but 1/2 more than the already higher federal spec means the airbag is extending further into the cabin by that 0.4685039 of an inch and that might be enough to cause an injury (since it will meet the occupants head sooner and possibly with more force).

Without understanding the data that determined the spec, who knows?

I simply went to my dealer service department. Handed the guy my 2nd letter saying can I get this recall done now that parts were available. He asked for my mileage which I gave him. He verified my phone number. He said he would call me when the parts come in and it will be fixed. No hassle, no lies, simply matter of fact type of guy. If I don't hear from them in 2 weeks, I will stop buy again. Not really concerned as my truck is doing fine. They have been a no hassle dealer in every way.

Stopped by dealer after Dialysis yesterday. They double checked my VIN, mileage and got the ball rolling. They said they'd get the parts ordered. Might take a couple of days, and they'd call to schedule appointment to get it in! No problems, no hassles etc.....
Just took a bit, since parts were not readily available. Got my official notice from Ford Saturday, stating that parts were now available and to schedule an appointment ASAP basically.
After this, I should be up to date on things!
