Hello everyone! I was looking at Dash Cams and the information here is great, but wanted to narrow down the search. It is important that the dash cam can take the south Texas heat, turns off when you turn the vehicle off and has loop recording. I am just looking at a front facing camera at this time and would like to spend under $200. Would the VIOFO Dash Cam A119 Mini 2 be a good option, or do you recommend spending more and moving up something like the Wolfbox or FitCamX?

Any added information would be greatly appreciated!

Just hardwired my Viofo A129 (only front facing) dash cam, loving it so far. Would definitely recommend whatever dash cam you pick, that you hardwire it to your Maverick.

For sure! My wife has the auto dimming mirror in her Escape, so the Donger adapter looks perfect. For the Mav though, I am going to need to read up on hard wiring as that is not something I have done before.

Here's a link to whom I followed for my install. It may be 41 minutes, but there's no real editing and he takes his time doing everything.

This is my setup, cost about $60 including the dash tray used to attach the camera and a switched USB cable for power. Without switching off, it continues to record for 90 minutes after the vehicle is off.
Has loop recording. Probably not the top of the line video quality, but sufficient for what I need.
What took the most time for installation was finding the install height that didn't block my view.
Mount block was my own fabrication. Still need to paint it black to match. Or I might take it to my nephew to 3-D print in black.

Love the usb cord with the switch. I need to look for one of those instead of plugging in and unplugging all the time

I've been using the A119 Mini 2 for about 2 and 1/2 months and have been 100% satisfied. Like any of these gizmos you have to learn to do some fancy dancing in the way that it wants to work, but when you get the steps figured out it's a piece of cake. Images are big and sharp when I transfer to my desktop computer. So far, very reliable.

Thank you! The setup in the wifes escape should be easy tapping into her autodimming rear view, so I figured it would be a nice test before picking one up for the mav, especially in this south Texas heat.

Can't go wrong with Viofo products, I have had them for about 15 years and they are still working fine. Bought a newer one about two years back, VIOFO 129 for our motorhome. I have the regular 119 in Maverick and with the rear camera also.

Im looking into getting this same camera and setup with the cigarette lighter. Is the usb power button needed or will the provided cord connect with your attachments?

Im a noob when it comes to this and just trying to figure out what the benefit is with the on/off switch. I feel like the camera should turn on when the car is on and off when the car is off.

Has anyone tried this maverick specific dash cam from Amazon. The install looks as easy as can be. I like it because if you don't would want 24 hour monitoring you can hook it up to the lane assist power and don't have to run any wires. It would shut off when the truck is turned off.

The camera will work fine with the usb cord included. The cigarette lighter stays powered for 90 minutes after the truck is turned off. If you're fine with the parked recording every time, then on/off switch isn't needed.

The VIOFO turns off when you shut the truck down. It will stay enabled in a "parking mode" if you have that enabled, otherwise, shuts down. Also, there is a switch on the power cord with I think 3 selectable power levels that allows the entire thing to shut down if battery gets to low. Here is a good read:

Have a great day!
