Same (y) I had another card up my sleeve too. I was searching for a specific option set on the 2013 Grand Cherokee and did lots of internet searching up to 250 miles away. Talked to a bunch of "internet managers" about OTD price, etc. Turns out, there were 2 dealers 40 minutes away and about 10 miles apart on same freeway that had units with options I wanted. 1 dealer actually had 2, but they had more stuff on them and couple thousand more than I wanted to spend and didn't NEED the fancy Nav, sunroof and upgraded seating on his. They were also black on black. I went to visit him 1st and test drove 1 and they were acceptable. He wanted to sell on the spot before I went to check out the other 1. I showed him OTD pricing the other dealer emailed me and he couldn't quite get there so I left but told him I'd be back if the other guy played any games and let him know either way.

Got to the 2nd dealer and was negotiating with their "Closer" who was playing the no trade value BS, when my phone rings. It was the 1st dealer (I had told each guy about the other 1) and I answered with him on speaker. He was like I hope you didn't sign anything yet - my manager just told me I can match the other price now if you come back! The "closer" across the desk looked like all the blood just drained out of him! LOL. I thanked the guy on the phone for the update and told him I would seriously consider it and get right back to him. Closer guy now is sweating and wants to see my CarMax offer so I threw it on the desk. Now he's worried and has to "take it "upstairs" for OK". I said make it quick or I'm heading down the street pronto :ROFLMAO: I started calling people on my phone as he left the room to spook him. He was back in a flash with the OK on trade. Then he tried to renegotiate our OTD price, so I pulled the phone out again and flipped through my call list and he popped. " Okay, okay, okay"-he's now back to agreed deal and says "let's shake and do the deal right now!"

We shook on it and he escorted me to the F&I guy and I wrapped it up real quick ;) I was tired after all that, but it was probably my best deal I won ever buying a car. Still have the Jeep too.
Having the cell phone and all the internet access etc. makes it a much more even playing field. Well Played!

I bet half those 48 are gone in a week.I work at a huge used car dealer rhymes with jar fax and these things are gone fast.
I wouldn't take that bet. :)

You would lose, good choice I’ve been watching these since I ordered mine and it’s crazy . But people want them and don’t care about the price even though it’s never gonna be worth what they’re paying.

Not gonna lie, if I couldn't find a Maverick at more local Ford dealer and wanted to test drive it, I'd rent one from U-Haul. For twenty bucks or so, you can spend an entire day with it. Not just testing out things like the driving dynamics, but also hauling or towing with it to see if it met your needs.
Have you actually found a Maverick available for rental at a local U-Haul? Back in November, I was thinking of renting one for a couple of days just to see how I liked it... I looked - hard - to find one, and it seemed like only a very few of them were available in South Florida (some kind of test program?), and even those were listed as unavailable for at least 3 weeks out from the day I was looking.

PS - I'm in Texas, so even if the Florida ones had been available, it would not have been a viable solution for a "2-day test drive"...

I did the same. Never could find the car I traded in for sale, though. Anyone know why that might be?
I sold my late-model Chevy HD diesel pickup to CarMax. It took about a week to show up in their inventory, and was gone by the next day (presumably sold). But then, Diesel HDs were incredibly hard to find at that point...

I understand that sometimes they will do some minor repairs / touch-ups before putting them on the lot, if they think it will increase the value. I'm pretty sure that's what delayed mine from listing. I know for sure that on "my" truck, the online listing pictures showed they had repaired the very minor ding on the left side of the box behind the wheel. It was the only blemish on that truck.

IMHO, I believe that carmax delivers high interest loans for people with poor credit that couldn’ can’t get a loan at a regular dealers lot. So they charge more for the risk. I went to a carmax dealership and asked them why there used car were so high and they told me that with my credit I should go to a bigger dealership because of this.

They may have "wholesaled" it. Wholesalers go from dealer to dealer buying trades, that they then sell to lower tier used car lots or take to auction.

I did the same. Never could find the car I traded in for sale, though. Anyone know why that might be?

I took my Maverick to Carmax when I had 1500 miles on it and they offered me exactly what sticker price was.

Depends on what "worth" means to different buyers. It was "worth" it to me to pay $5k over MSRP.

Sold my Maverick XLT EB AWD to Carmax on Friday. Working with a local dealer on a cancelled Tremor order @ msrp less FB coupon.

Why did I sell the Maverick now?

Third vehicle and used car prices are steadily declining. Carmax gave me over msrp and a few dollars shy of the out-the-door price plus added accessories. Carmax rep told me 6 months ago you would have made a hefty profit but rising interest rates are locking out potential buyers.

What I found interesting is the Carmax offer was greater than the dealer’s offer plus tax savings.

For those looking to sell, consider Carmigo. I had a great experience with them when selling my RDX once my Mav arrived. $1900 better than any other offer, including CarMax, Carvana, local dealers, etc... It's a really easy 24hr auction to their dealer-members, and you have complete control over final price and/or any final price negotiation. Really win-win. No fees if you don't get your price.

Probably had buyers already lined up. When I got trade in price for 2012 CR-V from my dealer they were disappointed when I later told them I gave it to my granddaughter to go to college! 🤗. I suspect the had buyers lined up!

At least you got to test drive a Maverick. I had to go on blind faith and break my own rule of "never buy a first year model." Have had ZERO regrets buying my Maverick XL EB. We'll see where things stand five years from now.
Ditto on breaking my rule not to buy a first production year. I did however get to test drive an XL hybrid for 25 miles and was pleased. Moreover, this is my first Ford EVER! I am very pleased I went with my gut, zero regrets. I bought a 2.0 EB off the lot while I am waiting for my hybrid to be built.

I got to LOOK at an XL Ecoboost, but because it belonged to the service guy I couldn't sit in it or test drive it. This is likewise my first Ford, first truck. I ordered the EB because the salesman was up front in stating that "there would be a considerable wait time." 16 weeks to the day of ordering, my EB finally arrived.

After test driving mine, the Carmax rep said, "Niiiiice ride."
