Hello, I have a 23 Hybrid Maverick with about 35K miles, and have noticed a slight front end shimmy/wobble through the steering wheel during acceleration. All classic signs of CV axle failure, and it seems to be a pretty well known issue on early Mavericks around this milage. I understand it should be under warranty, but I was wondering how much of a fight this may end up being with the dealer. So far, I have had no complaints with my dealership, but I haven't had to warranty anything yet. The shimmy/wobble is subtle, but enough that I noticed it and started searching online (it wasn't something I was aware of and watching for, so I don't think I am imagining it). I also understand that it could potentially be hard to diagnose officially without taking the CV axle apart.

Is this something I am going to have to fight them over? The earliest appointment I could get is next week, and they say they need the truck for 4-6 days to do the diagnosis. That seems a bit overboard, but I have an extra vehicle and can deal with it. Any recommendations on getting this handles with the minimum of fuss?

Thanks!

I don't think you will have any problems getting them warranted, remember they're under the 4/60 power train warranty. Once the dealer has the vehicle and can fit it between ongoing or scheduled appointment jobs, it will probably be a lot less time. I may be wrong, but your dealer sounded like mine when I ended up with a new battery. Couldn't look at right away, but when I left it, I got it back the next day and I left it immediately. I don't believe failing CV's need to be disassembled to be diagnosed. Just my thoughts.....

Got mine done at 33,000 miles. Brought it in to the dealer in the morning (7am). Diagnosis was confirmed. First said it may be done by the next day. Parts came in by 11am. Axles installed, tested. Picked up truck the same day. Warranty covered everything. No out of pocket expense.
