I've been experimenting with cruise control-

I normally never used cruise in town, but shocked at my MPG...

Yes great mpg at 35-50. Not bad up to 60-65. I suspect a larger battery might allow a larger amount of active storage. The insane rpm of the starter/generator is most likely a factor.

I'm getting 50+ mpg-

It's switching to electric power automatically...

At the risk of repeating myself, becuase I think I've said this before...

I wish the Trail Control feature of the Ranger FX4 could be made available on Maverick EcoBoost... On a regular basis, I have to drive these unimproved sections of road in Mexico, like 8 - 15 miles worth, at about 10mph so that I don't shake my vehicle apart.... That would be the ultimate cruise control to have.... Trail Control for the sake of self control... to prolong vehicle life, while improving gas mileage.... WIthout it, I tend to speed up and make the ride unpleasant for passengers....

Doesn't the Tremor have that? I do wish it was available on standard AWD Mavericks

I don't know..... doesn't matter as I can't give up 4K tow capabilities... I know Ford would never give us Trail Control on models that don't have the specific off-road packages... I main I don't need FX4/Tremor capabilities to navigate a dirt/sandy road that gets a washboarded surface.... I just need to take my time.... Wishful hoping on my part.

I understand about not giving up 4k. My current Mav has 4K, but I've never had the need to tow more than a U-Haul trailer. I guess the old saying "Better to have and not need it than need it and not have it" applies.
When I go to my gun range, (two to three times a month) I have to go real slow on some of the roads to get there. Trail Control would be very useful in this situation, but you are right; Ford will never put it on any vehicle not specifically built for off road use. I don't understand why it isn't offered on the FX4.

Exactly, your use case it similar to mine... Trail Control is Self Control to keep the speeds in check on marginal roads... Not trying to conquer Moab...

My concerns are also the exteme heat, high elevations, and fast highway speads of the desert southwest. The small improvements that accompany the 4K package are just cheap insurance to help the truck deal with the extemes here. Out weighs benefits of the Tremor to me. Climbing up to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon towing a 1700lb pop-up camper + hundreds of lbs of gear with a light duty 4cyl truck on a hot july day just beats it (been there, done that). But I think the forced induction of the 250hp EcoBoost will hold it's own at elevation and the 4k package will help to keep it all just a bit cooler.

Apologies to the original poster.... I probably shouldn't have hi-jacked your Hybrid Cruise Control thread in this manner.... Sorry man.

I think you are right about the larger battery. I have a three mile climb with a 2.5 mile decent on my commute. I'm pretty sure the Mav has recovered all it can in the fisrt mile.

At 39-41 on hilly winding 14 mile 40 mph road I travel quite frequently I some times can get 61-63mpg going north. Return trip usually around 5mog less due to a long slope can coast down. Try cruise with brake hold on. FYI I have Active cruise so it might make a difference. I have not had time to double check but when I pushed go pedal brake released and truck sped up and cruise was still active. Was surprised and it may not have kicked in until a certain speed. Have been meaning to check it out. I am thinking that since the gearing in the trans is fixed and the "variable" speed from the trans is accomplished by the planetary power split device perhaps a dual planet for each of the electric motors one for low speed and one for high speed could be implemented to allow electric motors to lower their rpm while axles are running at high rpm. ????🤷

I honestly don't know why more drivers don't use cruise as much as possible. On top of a fuel mileage benefit it helps traffic. The number of times I am driving somewhere and have the same donkey(s) pass me only to slow down and be repassed and then speed up and pass me again is maddening to the point of me legit wanting to wreck these people. It also causes unnecessary traffic backups as these people slow for no reason whatsoever. Rant over

@GPSMan has thread covering this. I think he said one stop can recover 5% of the soc of the 30-40% of the HVB reserved for Regen braking (Ford expects you to use it asap). Larger battery is most likely not feasible as it would add additional heating/cooling requirements like more radiator larger AC condenser and bunch of others. Check manual but I think tow is recommended as engine braking occurs sooner???

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but 29-30 is all I’m getting so far . I’m thinking just not broken I yet. I picked it up in May but I only have 1300 DRIVEN miles on it. I have a lot more towed miles on it . Time will tell.🤷🏼‍♂️

An idea I had for Mythbusters that I never got around to suggesting to them was to test the fuel efficiency of cruise control in different driving conditions. My anecdotal experience seemed to indicate that I got better fuel economy on cruise control, especially on long highway drives, than without. But I never did any true empirical testing.
