I have an Ottocast coming. Will attempt on my Lariat Lux w/SYNC 3. Hope it works!
I was just about to order one to compare to my carlinkit while it’s still under the return policy. Guess I’ll let you be the test mule instead, haha.

There is something like this if you want to play a cd in your car

But it'll be a lot cheaper and more reliable just putting some MP3s on a USB thumb drive and plugging that into the USB port.
Thank you for trying to help.
The Amazon link I can understand.
But that "simpler" last part might as well have been in Chinese...went right over my head, lol.

So, I've had my carlinkit 3.0 for a few weeks now and the reliability of it has taken a real turn for the worse. Now that it's below freezing the past few days it won't even boot until it "warms up" it seems. I can be halfway home then it randomly starts booting up finally. Also, it reboots several times per trip now.

I ordered an ottocast to try out of curiosity even though I'm sure a lot of these are on shared hardware/firmware with different brand names. Hoping it works better!

Out of curiosity why on earth arent you all just using bluetooth????????? WHy buy a separate device that takes up a USB port when you can literally just connect via bluetooth?

I did get a response from CPlay2Air Support, but no update yet for 2022 vehicles.

Hello Lee,

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your adapter.
Please know that the test of our engineering team is still ongoing with the 2022 car brands.
No worries! I will surely let you know right away once we are done with the test.
Let us know if you need further assistance.

Thanks,

Michelle

CarPlay does not work via Bluetooth - just the basic radio. Needs a Wired (or wireless "tricked") connection to use the navigation, Spotify, etc. from CarPlay.

Wait, this is an adapter for like... Android Auto stuff???? Or just Apple. I had no idea they had those, that is actually pretty awesome.

The Cplay2Air one is for Apple CarPlay - there are other ones that do the same for Android Auto.

CPlay2Air works in both the 2022 Ford Maverick and 2022 Nissan Frontier with no issues. Even like the wired version you do occasionally find you have to unplug it and plug it back in. But that is far and few between.

Android has their own variations. I picked up a Indiegogo project last year called AAWireless. The chip shortage has really made their project hard and not sure if they're still selling them, but the developer is pretty well known on XDA forums. Overall, I've been pretty happy with mine.

Can someone test if Carplay or Android Auto work if you plug the phone into the rear USB ports? For something like a wireless dongle, that'd be pretty sweet to hide the puck back there rather than the center console.
USB port in back is for charging only!

So far only success that has been logged on here is with the Lariat/Sync setup - nobody yet has got it to work with the Ford Connected Touch system in the XL/XLT. I'm hoping that will change once they get the testing and a possible firmware update.

Edit: It looks like @Cubican may have gotten Cplay2Air to work in his XLT if I'm reading his post right in another thread, hopefully will confirm here.

Thought I'd post an update on the wireless carplay dongle experience I've had so far. The carlinkit 3.0 I got must be a dud. It disconnects and reboots all the time on its own and won't even boot when really cold out (sub freezing).

This lead me to try another dongle which is the ottocost u2-now. Looks to be the exactly same device in a slightly different shell. Even the firmware is the same date and its UI is the same pre-pairing. However, it works when its cold out and hasn't rebooted on me once. Only issue I've had with it so far is if I walk into a restaurant to grab a to go order then come right back out and start the truck again. It will connect to my phone, but no audio. I'm thinking this is a sync issue though because the carlinkit would do the same thing. Only way I can get audio back is usually unplug/replug or sometimes reboot the app on my phone then pandora works. Bit annoying, but doesn't happen that often. Overall, I'm much more impressed with the ottocast u2-now so far. Keep in mind, I do have sync3 as my vehicle is a lariat lux. Don't think any of these devices work yet on the non sync3 systems.
