Copilot 360 question

I’m actually a big fan of not having parking sensors. They just annoy me on rentals and adding a camera works great for me.

My car is so old it was before mandatory backup cameras.

I agree completely. I don't need something beeping at me when I can see perfectly well where my car is relative to the obstacles.

I have neither in my 2014 car. My wife's newer Subie has the camera and no sensors. Works for me once I got used to trusting those lines.

And I don't need the ugly dots on the bumper or the cost of replacing them in the event of a prang.

Those little sonar sensors actually aren't too expensive. Think it was under $60 last time I had to replace one. It's the radar sensors for BLIS that'll cost you a pretty penny if they get trashed.

I posted this question elsewhere as I didn't have them on my XLT. The answer was ,if your car has the 360 option (mine does) the spot mirror is replaced by the side warning light in the mirror. Personally I'd rather have the spot mirror.

Sorry if this is redundant.
My 2022 XL with Co pilot 360 has power adjust, manual fold mirrors. It does not have any form of cruise control.
It has orange blind spot detection warnings in the mirror.
It has lane centering: when it detects lines on both sides of the road, as you drift off center it shows a warning light on the dash.
If you drift too close to the edge of your lane, without using your blinker, XL Co pilot 360 gently but firmly steers you back toward the center of your lane. It works well.

Just to help clarify, CP360 does not have lane centering. Lane Centering is in the Lariat Lux package only. CP360 has Lane Keeping System. It has two features, Lane Keeping Aid and Lane Keeping Alert.

Lane Keeping Aid gently steers you back, as you describe above. Lane Keeping Alert is dependent on the settings you select, will beep or vibrate when crossing the line. Neither will center in the lane and maintain that position. Ford calls that maintaining feature "lane centering." Wish all of it was more clear in the naming. Lane centering and lane keeping can sound synonymous.

There is a specific Lane Centering button on the steering wheel. It is only on steering wheels with Lariat Luxury Package. All other CP360 vehicles have Lane Keeping Aid and Lane Keeping Alert only.

Aid will periodically nudge you to the center only if it detected you have already drifted outside the lane, or are really really close to the edge. Centering will continuously steer you, *keeping* you in the center. You can think of it as a passive vs active system.

Safety features should be available as an option on all trims, IMHO. That includes lane centering, ACC, auto dimming,, etc. In a package or separately. I do like that they allow CP360 in all trims, but should be a little more robust offering. Or have an additional CP360+ option.

All actual safety features are included standard on all models. Nothing available on higher trims gains you any insurance discount. They are experimental features at best and some people want to pay to be beta testers. Copilot 360 does not replace mirrors in any way. ACC is more likely to make you less safe and yet another system to potentially fail and cause an accident.

Right. It seems to be a matter of labeling and marketing. Ford calls a whole bunch of technologies "Co-Pilot360." But you get different sub-sets of that technology in different ways.

On the XL, XLT, or Lariat you get only BLIS and Lane-Keeping System by adding the CP360 Package. The rest of the CP360 technologies aren't included. (Personally, I think calling that package "Co-Pilot 360" is misleading because so much is missing.)

On the Lariat (but not the others) the Luxury Package includes CP360. (Click to add the Lux Package and you'll see the CP360 package labeled as "included.") But at that level you also get the other CP360 technologies that aren't included on XL or XLT. Ford still refers to them as part of CP360, but you can only get them by ordering the Lariat Lux Package. (Which I also think is kind of misleading.)

I couldn't disagree more. I feel much safer using ACC with a good lane centering system on the highway, especially in any 2+ hour drive scenarios. I'd much rather focus on what other vehicles around me are doing than worry about my speed or staying perfectly centered in the lane.

I suppose some people will use it as an opportunity to pull out their phone, but that's a different conversation.

You can disagree all you want to, but the insurance industry doesn't consider it a safety feature. It is a level of autonomous driving which thus far has proven to be less safe than humans driving their own cars themselves. You are statistically speaking 10% more likely to be involved in a fatal crash when using ACC.

Your "statistically" is taken out of context. Lets go straight to source the IIHS.

Lets start with, "IIHS-affiliated Highway Loss Data Institute and other research indicate that ACC may lower crash risk."

Now lets look at, “ACC does have some safety benefits, but it’s important to consider how drivers might cancel out these benefits by misusing the system,” says IIHS Statistician Sam Monfort, the lead author of the paper. “Speed at impact is among the most important factors in whether or not a crash turns out to be fatal.”

So the context is that if the system is miss used (speeding and what the article was about) then yes there is a 10% increase but not from using the ACC but from speeding while using ACC.

Thats two different sources from the article that says there are safety benefits when using ACC properly.
