I wanted to get some better tires for my truck once I paid it off. I planned on keeping the stock tires in case of future availability issues for that size.

I had looked at Continental CrossContact LX25 on Les Schwabs website a couple weeks ago.

Well, went there today to check on price/availability on those tires.

They told me they didn’t have any in their store or warehouse but could still get them.
They told me that the US factory that makes those got destroyed by a tornado a couple weeks ago.

They don’t even list Continentals on their website now.

That explains the sudden tire supply problem Ford now has for the stock XL/XLT Continental tires.

That explains why my son’s Maverick order has been in production for the past two weeks. Apparently, no tires! Thanks for letting us know about this latest constraint

tirerack.com has them to include a $100 rebate.

I run their Crosscontact ATR Tires, same super light weight, a little more aggressive tread, same diameter but an inch wider in the OEM 225 size due to the more square shoulder, and actually less expensive. I’ve been pleased with this more capable tire on my Hybrid while keeping the OEM weight. Also on the tire rack site.

I sure hope mine scheduled to be built august 5th gets built. Factory closed for 2 weeks is why there has been no movement.... at least i hope that is the only reason. Would be pretty sad if they cant get tires for any xlt/xl....

I also cant find anything on recent tornado damages on tire factory. Found some in april, but they are up and running again at full capacity again... Can anyone find a link to current issue?

I have had the Continental CrossContact LX25 on my 2018 scape for 30000 miles, as the oe Michelins were worn out after the first 30000. They have been a great tire and will undoubtedly go another 20000 miles minimum, and I did notice a small pick up in fuel mileage on a vacation trip after installing them compared to the same trip the year before on the Michelins, with same load.

I don't think this would be holding up current scheduled vehicles. They have the parts for anything scheduled already.

My next set will be Bridgestone Ectopia's, better for MPG and great tread life

Come on Ford, you don't have a second source lined up? If not you are just TRYING to create supply chain problems.

There was a tornado in April 2023 in Tupelo MS that affected the Cooper tire plant there. I think they make Goodyear and Cooper tires there, probably some others as well. I have not heard of any Continental plants having such damage, I think Continental tires may be made in either Sumter SC or Mt. Vernon, IL. I cannot find any damage reports there. Anyone have clarification?

I think there was a really good explanation as to why my son’s Maverick is held up for the past two weeks. Apparently the factory is closed down for whatever reason, probably maintenance and repair of the tooling.

To add to my drama, it appears my son is having second thoughts on acquiring the Maverick currently stuck in production. Hmmmm

Well, at any rate, whoever made them, in what ever state, and whatever happened, sounds like Continental production here in the US has stopped for a while.

Hopefully I won’t damage ONE tire and not be able to replace it anytime soon.

I dodge junk on the roads constantly. I try to avoid anything on the road no matter how small or seemingly insignificant. I still get stuff in my tires requiring plugs.

Last year I unknowingly ran over a utility knife. Didn’t see THAT ONE! Somehow the thing flipped up in the air and slashed my sidewall several inches. A few seconds later I heard this great WHOOOSH, and found myself riding the rim. Different car, not the Maverick.

Anyway, I had no idea what had caused the slash, or how, until the tire guy told me he found the entire razor blade inside when he was pulling the rim!

He told me that was a first for him.

You sure the factory/OEM ContiProContact tires come from a US plant, not Mexico? The 18" wheels come with Michelin Primacy tires from Mexico.
