Confirmed TPMS Relearn Tool?

Well, I may have spoke too soon about the TPMS on my winter setup working right out of the box: while these (possibly counterfeit) MotorCraft sensors immediately seemed to get picked up by the system, after driving about 35 miles the TPMS system went into fault mode and none of them are reporting. I tried the relearn procedure using one of those Ford TPMS tools from Amazon. I am able to enter the learn mode fine, but can't seem to get the sensors to see the tool (I *think* I was able to teach the front left once successfully). I am getting as close as I physically can to the sensor with no luck, and the tool seems to be "sealed" so don't think I can replace the battery in case it's a range issue.

Not sure if the tool I happened to pick is no good, I got the wrong TPMS sensors, or what. Even when they WERE working, I confirmed using two manual tire pressure guages they were reading low: I started at 35PSI for each tire, then bumped them up to 38, but I could only get the sensors to report 31 or 32 PSI. Not sure if that means anything...

Does anyone have a tool that is confirmed to work? This one was only $12 on Amazon; I don't mind spending more to figure this out.

Sorry you're going through this. I don't think you're alone -- there are a ton of those counterfeit sensors all over eBay for too-good-to-be-true pricing. Some probably work somewhat and maybe some are just duds. My best advice at this point would be to head back to the tire shop that mounted and balanced your winter set for you and see if they can use their tool to re-initialize them and get the truck to recognize them again. I'm not sure exactly what putting the truck into learn mode would have done -- but the sensors should still read like they are supposed to...hopefully...and that really should be all the truck needs.

I bought aftermarket Schrader EZ sensors (Schrader is the OEM for Ford) and I also have a nice programming tool which I plunked down some money for hoping I'd get some use out of it for friends and family. I programmed them and they just worked and have worked for the last 5k miles so far.

Worst comes to worst -- you have trouble with the tire shop, can't make things work, whatever goes sideways and they want you to spend $200 on new sensors or whatever...I'd program a set of the same ones I used for you and send them out so you would just have to have someone swap them in. Hopefully it doesn't come to that, but just so you have a backup plan. They are about $25 each and can easily ship them for $10.

Same here, I got a set off Amazon for my summer set up. Same mhz as oem and it listed it as compatible for the maverick everything. I tried the manual sync up with putting the truck in learn mode and emptying some air from the tire. 20 pounds of air and a flat tire later it never synced up.

Rock auto is probably the best bet for tire sensors. Also before the sensors are installed your install shop can read them with a tool to verify they work.

To confirm that your tool is working roll one of your original tire and wheels next to the left front and enter training mode and use the tool on that one. Once after installing a new PCM I had to retrain the sensors on the vehicle before it would start and it had bad sensors, so I used 4 from another truck to get it trained so I could get it running again so I know it can be done that way to test your trainer.

Honestly I never had luck with the increasing/decreasing air method on Fords. I have a professional KTI tool and it also never synced when we had Tauruses in the fleet even after firmware updating. The Motorcraft tool from the dealership always did the trick. I wouldn't trust a lot of the Ford ones on eBay or Amazon to not be dubious clone.

4 sensors for $120 is not bad.

when I bought a set of wheels and tires from Tirerack, they charge $27 per sensor, close enough to the same.
