Real people losing their occupations is hardly the occasion for sarcasm. I do think, the writing is on the wall, though, with Ford moving to build to order.
No sarcasm intended.
Don't believe me? Read through most of these posts and you'll see hundreds of people making statements about how Sales Reps taking advantage of an opportunity.

You call it sarcasm. I call it deja vu. You keep biting the hand that feeds you, eventually you will run out of hands and food.

Awe, they might have to find a real job? Poor things.

The salesman that I ordered my Bronco from was an Army vet back from the sandbox, with wife and kids, trying to earn a living. Not able to put food on the table due to non-existent activity at the dealership, he had to move on.

Ok...I'll be blunt. Regardless of what you think of the car salesmen that you have interacted with, there is an actual person behind that name; many with families that their sales pays for. I am happy with the Build to Order system because I think it's less wasteful. That being said, what your post stated trivializes the humanity of people working at dealerships and was frankly mean.

Didn't answer my question. Hiw are they not at a real job? BTW, I made my living for years as a door to door tv service and internet salesman
Sorry but I don't know how to answer your question. I guess you can look it up on the internet. I believe you'll find Car Sales profession is one of the most distrusted professions in existence. I know of female family members that have been taken advantage. I personally don't know of a single person who trusts a car sales person. Just MY OPINION.

Your opinion is one of condescending nonsense and the “I’m better than you” mentality.

I sold cars. For 6 years. Ford and Honda. I will tell you that there are shitty people, but lumping all of them in on the same group is ignorant, opinion or not.

Just because you don’t trust them doesn’t mean you have the right to be inconsiderate. People have families, needs, obligations, etc.

I guarantee someone out there probably dislikes people in your profession. You’re no better than anyone.

Yes you, previous posters, you are insane.

The amount of angry rhetoric about dem foreigners takin are jobs is too damn high. And then there is the people who seem to be on the other side but only sorta...what is going on there? Seriously, WTF is this thread?
Welcome to reality- 2021

Who said trust? Do you trust an insurance adjuster? I don't. Do you trust a politician or a lawyer? How about a weather man? Mechanics have 'never' taken advantage of the mechanically challenged. Doctors don't try to get that office visit either do they?

I have heard of a lot of this particularly with for example Mexicans, females, that may not know the language, getting all kinds of expensive garbage tacked onto their car by the dealers. I frankly find that sad.

It's like anything else, there's good and bad car salesmen I'm sure.

I also am not the type that wants to skin the dealer down to the last dime. I dont mind leaving them a fair modest profit. I know a guy, lets say he is a certain type, he went in to buy a car and laughed that after like 4 hrs, they couldnt wait to see him leave (he did purchase a truck). Because he does all the research, and has nothing but time, an engineers mind, and doesn't budge an inch. And he's a cantankerous bastard. I wouldn't envy a car salesman in a tangle with him.

I woke up this am thinking that exact same thing. America needs to rely upon itself for for everything or have a backup plan ready.

I will say I dont know the details, but it seems to me GM/Ford got hit hardest, vs some importers etc. If that's the case, then part of the blame lies on them for poor planning, and not thinking about contingency plans. It doesn't surprise, neither seem particularly well managed (especially GM)

There are so many opinions in here at this point that mine isn’t going to matter and honestly I don’t even know who said what. But regarding the argument about car salesman, yeah, that was pretty harsh. If you don’t trust them, that’s your choice. Yes, there are some sleazy salesman and even decent salesman who happen to work for a sleazy dealership. But there are bad apples everywhere. I was a cop for 17+ years. I always tried my best to treat everyone I dealt with fairly and with respect. But I still got to carry around the reputation of a few of those bad apples. To lump every salesman into the category of untrustworthy is pretty narrow minded thinking. I have a salesman that I know is a great guy. The prices at his dealership aren’t the greatest in town. But I know they will have my back if I have an issue and I can trust them so I buy there anyway. I gladly went in and ordered my Mav there at MSRP. They didn’t try to “market adjust” me and I didn’t try to “4% below invoice” them.

A good friend and I were discussing our children a few years ago and he said the following. Trust your children until they give you a reason not to. This can be applied to many in our lives.

I think most of the time it's not the salesman it's management ...It's the finance guy who tries to sell you crap after you dodge it from the salesman... Sure the Salesman could be more honest.. but it's his job, He has to follow the script or he is out, So to feed his family he has to do what he knows is BS.
Sure, he could be a hero and say "NO" but he knows he can't....his hands are tied.
Yes, there are salesmen who eat this up....and they are usually the ones who are the top dogs because they make the "Man" happy... selling overpriced cars...
It's the nature of the business or any business for that matter The employee who makes you a lot of money,,, is always the hero...
The moral of this story...Be nice to the salesman and be an ass to management LOL they are the ones who fuel this environment.

Whew. Tough read. I laughed, I cried, I threw my iPad against the wall. Chip shortages are certainly an explosive subject.

Agreed, Please do! I like Cool Ranch tortilla chips best
It costs BTW abot 10-20 Billion dollars to build a chip fab or if you prefer @Old Ranchero ’s chips about 10$ in oil, masa and ranch dip, but it makes your maverick get all cool ranch smelling.

the US has pledged 50 billion over 5 years to new fabs

It is due to decades of politicians of both parties telling us manufacturing is dead in America and then turning around and giving massive tax incentives to American companies to shut down factories and take them overseas. Americans can manufacture anything and with current technology products can be made cost effective. The only question is can Americans cut their addiction to cheap disposable products from overseas and pay more for products made in the U.S.A. I personally would pay more but I also realize I’m in the minority.

And yes I do understand everything about the new global economy. It’s just that IMO it does not justify stabbing the American worker in the back.
The worker at the assembly plant in Mexico building the Bronc Sport and Maverick truck take home $115 per week! Chevrolet builds the Silverado truck right next door which sells for about $40000 dollars
in America, Who profits the most, not the Mexican worker, American worker or American buyer…. Mary Barra gets a large bonus .
Just refuse to purchase items not Made in the USA, not possible.
$5500 worth of parts are in every American car or truck! But also ask any Senior in high school if they want to work in an assembly plant and the answer most likely will be no. Young adults want to work in IT,
computer coding , or similar jobs. Very few want to be plumbers, A/C
techs, auto mechanics Or roofers. If we want it built here we have to have a steady flow of skilled workers.
