I am a runner and found over time how contractors will work on their tailgate at a home, leave tools on the bumper or edge, and then drive away. All is fine until they get to a corner where the tool slides off. I had a large bucket of screwdrivers, pocket knives, hammers, brushes, all sorts of things, that I would find in intersections.

All are very distracting. Some messages indicate I should keep my attention on the road, as the message is the only reason I’m distracted!
Weren’t people flashing their lights at you and/or beeping horns?I'm not used to having a locking tailgate.....not only that, you can hit the lock button on the key fob, while the trunk is still open.
There isn't an alert. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
In my case, I lock the car and forget to walk around and check that the tailgate is closed. It's happened a few times now. I had driven 30 minutes on the freeway with the tailgate fully open.
Thankfully the bed mat helped and I didn't lose anything out of the back of the truck, lol
no, that let's them off too easy. Someone should file a class action lawsuit!
I have heard of people who weld tools to their bumpers to keep people from tailgating

When I go for walks in warmer weather I often find tools & padlocks around the rough railroad tracks in town, along with rubber & metal suspension parts.
. Turned out after walking a mile back to my house it was my neighbors. He'd had to use his wife's keys because he couldn't find his ( they'd been on the roof of his truck )
