The Hybrid doesn't "downshift" because the eCVT doesn't have/need multiple gears like a conventional automatic (or manual) transmission.
Ya that's true it doesn't change a physical gear but you should feel and hear the engine rpms getting faster to give power and I couldn't feel that. That's what I meant. But ya technically you are right I won't feel a gear shift of course.

Be sure to keep us all posted on what transpires. And as long as you're not the one taking apart the transmission, I wouldn't stress over it.
Not to make light of your issue, but perhaps to interject a bit of humor, I came across this meme and thought you might enjoy it.

Haha ok thx. So far the light hasn't come back on and the dealer has been silent on the issue.

Dealer got back to me today. They are going to replace the transmission clutch (damper) and inspect the input shaft to see of that needs replacement as well. In the meantime I have tried the "bed in" procedure described my MAV 47 and I haven't had the light turned on since!

That's good progress. At least they've identified the problem and are moving towards a fix.

They are going to replace the transmission damper. Parts on order.
IIRC Escape hybrids also have this issue. I wonder why it effects some but not all, or if we are all due to lose it at some point. My clutch dampener rattles in the morning in cold mornings. I've heard that it's "common" but that makes me think there is some sort of design issue.

Glad I got the 100k warranty from Granger!

I'd almost do that bed in procedure mentioned in other thread - and go test the situation again.
See if it happens again.
The poster with the process never saw it again despite similar accelerations.

I'd be concerned with dealership getting in to it, if it really didn't need it.

Unless they warranty everything they touch beyond the initial warranty period. Just in case something else has a problem later.
And that seems unlikely they'd do that.

Trying to find the video on that, I know I saw one, actually in video the whole transmission did throw some metal around - they just pointed out the damper as they removed it, pointing out only way to get to it.

I understand not wanting to take things apart. I am just going to have faith that they do a good job. I am hoping that the damper is considered part of the transmission warranty so I would have 5 years. On the other hand if I don't do what they advise and I get into an accident or something their liability would be reduced or negated. So I am going to go with their recommendation. I did ask if the transmission damper they were going to use was the same as the factory ones that seem to fail and they didn't know! And by the way I have not had any more issues with rapid accelerations but I also haven't done any more long distance trips where it happened both times.

There is definitely a design issue. Not sure why Ford doesn't reengineer this. If it is rattling that's not a good sign. Maybe get it checked while under warranty.

Oh definitely for sure. I assume it's included under powertrain warranty which is 5/60k and also on my 10/100k warranty so will have plenty of time to have it looked at. However, it's my understand they "just do that" especially on cold mornings. I have floored it numerous times with no CELs so at least for now I don't think there is an issue.

Agree with redesign, but not sure why some exhibit issues and others do not.

Ya that is a good question. I have only 10000km on the vehicle so not driven that much.

I'm at 4000 miles now. Late Aug 2023 build. When was yours built? I've read others have had issues with later builds than mine.

Check these threads out, lots of issues.

The Escape hybrid has been having the same issue since 2020. It's a shame, the rest of the powertrain is so well designed.

I haven't had any sticking just the slip twice and the code going off twice. I hope my new damper doesn't stick! Truck seems to be working fine now so I almost don't want them to replace it but not sure it's good to not follow their recommendation.

Mine was built in August 2023.
