Very easily…. I’m pulling the phone up to enter a new location on my iPhone map app. like I mentioned, I don’t grab the phone very often, but I have done it a couple of times where it’s actually taken the shifter out of drive. And where I have it resting in the little triangle slanted orange space that’s exactly where the cord hangs.
Is your iphone connected to the map display on your infotainment screen?

You might try a longer cord. I understand that you want it to be tidy, but my phone is mounted to the "cubby" and I use a longer cord that doesn't come within a foot of the shifter.
Yeah...for sure. I was just using the one that came with the Iphone. I do have a longer one I can switch to. Like I said, I just put the phone upside down in the orange wedge cubby and the cord is right there near the dial....so the chance is there. Freaked me out the first time it happened....second time I knew what I did.

Well yeah....I use the Maps on my Iphone....not the one through Ford. It does display on the screen after I hit car play. If that's what you are asking.

Before my wife and I went on vacation last July 4th. I bought this side saddle arrangement Amazon $25. It has nice notches where the power cord rests.
It fits where the orange insert was.
I bought two long cords plugged into the rear of the console to keep our phones charged. It's kind of a neat system we can charge both phones and they're handy to each of us.
I thought I'd throw it out there.

Not a good thing to do with a vehicle in Drive, as demonstrated by your result.

You probably already know this, but once CarPlay is up on your truck's screen, you can enter addresses and search for destinations direct from there as well. It doesn't give you as many options as the phone does on routing and such, but I do it all the time with no issues.

As far as the cable itself, I recommend a braided one, because it's less likely to get hung up on other plastic parts (like gearshift knobs). Apple has only been providing braided cables for the last few years I think, but I have several braided Anker USB-C cables, and they work great. They also come with a little Velcro wire tie in case you want to loop up extra length.

I hated, hated HATED the shifter on my old company car (Nissan Rouge) - stupid hockey-puck design where putting it all the way forward (which after 50 years of muscle memory = park) put the f#&$ing car into REVERSE. I can't count how many times I accidently started to back up! Stupid, dangerous design.

The MAVs knob is great in comparison. I like that you just twist it all the way counter-clockwise to park (don't have to count stops.. just give it a twist) OR all the way clockwise to drive,,, again without counting clicks.. just a good twist. It's easy enough and since it's just telling the computer what you want to do you can't accidently put it in reverse and do any damage.

It's not perfect, but believe me now and hear me later... there are WAY WORSE designs out there!
Wish it had stops.

Do agree bumping it can turn dial.

Commented to this before bring it up again...considering putting a cover over mine.
that can flip up when I need to switch it real quick and put the lid back down.
>>on a hinge.

Yep....you are correct. BUT...be careful as your plugged in phone cord can move the dial out of Drive and into Neutral very easily. Have already done it twice while driving. Easy to correct, just be aware it CAN happen.
On the plus side N can really increase mpg!!!!
ETA: Downhill only! Also can feather the brake pedal to slow down and add to HVB charge. Possibly need a super economy drive mode allowing adaptive cruise to turn regen on/off base upon incline? 😇

Yep, yes to both. I know I can enter up on the screen, but I also do other things with the phone too when I pick it up…look at a text or something of course when I’m stopped at the light and yes, my iPhone 16 has the braided cable. 🙂

Oh sweet… that side saddle looks like a great idea. I’ll look into it.

I like that you do not have to put the truck into P before turning it off. The headlamp switch also turns for ever and ever but defaults back to 'auto' when you start the truck again. This is convenient for when you park the truck and you want to kill the lights and sit in the truck for a moment in the dark. You do not have to remember to turn the headlights back on the next time you drive it. The forever spinning dials may be annoying to some but they have their advantages.

Coming from a truck with a "normal" T-handle console shifter, I must say I LOVE the dial shifter. Just flick it to the right without looking and it's in drive. It's satisfying. I don't bother shifting it to park though. I just open the door and it happens auto-magically.
