The improved OEM oil recovery system along with port injection are on the 2025 EB.

If I installed a catch can & found oil in it - I’d be concerned that I messed up the improved OEM system.
What improved oil recovery system? The oil separator on the 2025 EB is functionally no different than the ones on any other 2.0 Ecoboost.

Like I said - I’m done researching:) However, the oil recovery system on the All New 2nd Gen Maverick EB has a different & “improved” system.

Care to share? The 2025 is the 3rd Generation of the 2.0 EB.

EDIT: I see you have no link... A mechanic stating "Different & Improved". Well, that's not exactly the last word on the subject, is it?

Thanks - I did not realize the Maverick had an updated EB between the original & the current.

Saw the same video, don't have a link/reference. So, whoever is doing research, you'll figure it out.

But, I'm coming from a 2015 2.0L DI EB, where this concern is valid.
I'm less concerned on the new (2025) DI+PI EB.
Its not worth the cost/hassle for me with PI.

Not saying the issue is eliminated, its not, but I personally am 'less concerned' about it.

OP/others can come to your own conclusion, that's fine too.

If I were on a Pre-2025 EB, with DI-only, I'd seriously consider it, especially on a new/clean engine.
If you're adding it after many miles, then consider a walnut blast on the intake ports, THEN add the catch can(s).

There should be less concern with port injection added. There's plenty of proof available that it improves but doesn't completely solve the problem for those doing research.

I'm not running a catch can, because I've manually cleaned intake valve deposits on DI engines in the past, and it's not a big deal if you're not paying someone to do it. You can buy a media blaster for about the same price that you'd pay for a good catch can setup, and if you're keeping the vehicle long enough, you'll need to clean them eventually, running a catch can setup or not, and with additional port injection or not.

I have a 2025 2.0L and I have oil starting to show up in the line that you remove with a catch can, I have not hit 500 miles yet, had it for about 3 weeks now.. I am going to be getting a Catch can soon as it is starting to worry me about the oil building up in that line.. also getting a bit of a burnt oil smell from time to time as well.. Not sure these improvements are really going to help all that much. Turbo engines will get oil in in these lines, and a catch can help improve the performance of the engine an help keep it cleaner..

Similar to a “new car smell”, there is a “new engine bay smell” as oils, fingerprints, grease, and high temp plastics reach operating temps for the first time and out gas. Normal smell. Kind of nice;)

As for a catch can - the new oil separator in the Maverick is a marvel of engineering design with its baffles & chambers. I’m all for replacing a restrictive exhaust system but would leave the fancy oil separator OEM!

Ok - sorry for “mansplaining” new engine smell that you’re well aware of.

The 2025 OEM oil separator is a new design & you might be smelling a problem in its functionality? Maybe we’ll see a TSB down the road…

Thanks for your insights!

The instillation of a catch can will not invalidate a warranty. There are no detrimental effects to other factory parts caused by the catch can.
If the catch can were to leak vacuum pressure or become plugged up, that would have an effect on engine performance which would not be covered under warranty though. If this were to happen, the tech would simply smoke test the system and tell you that your added crap was causing the problem and you would pay for the repairs. But this would still not cancel your warranty.

Think of it this way; You can install a Baldwin or Fram oil filter and add Mobil 1 oil and it would not invalidate your warranty. A catch can won’t either.

That being said, I’m sure some Poindexter on the forum will be along shortly to tell us that their warranty got cancelled because they put a non Ford oil filter on their truck. Don’t believe them.
Some of us on the forum try to post information that is Helpful. Others are 15 yr olds who post things in an attempt to make people think they are the Boss. (just ignore them).
Yeah go put on a vented one on and try to get warranty repair for any thing related to the emissions systems when it is clear your can altered the air intake into the system. It is the same as putting a 2 inch lift on a truck then trying to get a broken cv axle repaired under warranty.
