Finally got around to throwing the Rival cat skid plate on the truck today. Since I’m setting this thing up for overlanding, I figured I needed some actual metal under there.

Honest opinion: I see people saying you "need" AWD constantly, but I haven't found the limit of the FWD yet. I'm running 235 Wildpeaks aired down to 25 psi, and it eats up fire roads, gravel, washboards, ruts, creek crossings, and even decent mud without issues. The actual bottleneck I'm hitting isn't traction, it's clearance. I’m way more worried about smashing the oil pan than I am about getting stuck.

The install was super straightforward. I managed this one solo, but I’m planning on buying more armor from Rival later, and I can tell the bigger pieces are definitely gonna be a two person job just to hold them in place.

Best part is the plate actually sits a little lower than the battery heat exchanger. That was a big worry with rocks, so having that protected is nice.

Also, for anyone doing creek crossings in the Hybrid, since the trans breather is just that little vent cap on top of the case and not a hose, dont let the water get above the middle of the wheel.

Next up is ditch lights, and I'm planning to mount the GMRS antenna right on the light brackets to keep it clean. Let me know if you guys have questions on the fitment.

You’ve got electronics in a fender about the height of your axles.
These trucks even with AWD and with the added Tremor capabilities are still not Jeeps.
Remember that.
121 inch wheel base vehicle’s need about twenty five inches of clearance to go where the wranglers and Bronco’s play.

I assume the cat cover will not trap too much heat from the cat.

That seems like a good cat theft deterrent too....
Yep! A nice added bonus but not really a problem in my area

Oh yeah I agree with you that it's not a rock crawler but that's not what I want. I want to get off the beaten path and explore some. If I wanted to do some super crazy Rock claws and whatnot I would buy a beater truck from 2000s

Be careful with the evap canister under the driver floorboard. There's no protection on that on any models that are not FX4/Tremor.

10 Gauge steel and grade 12.9 bolts and the dick heads will go through a basket load of sawzall blades before they even get to the converter. If they get there at all before giving up.

They actually sell a skid plate for it that is compatible with the hybrids but it's out of stock.

That evap canister is definitely vulnerable. I know from experience, ran over a piece of 18 wheeler tire on interstate tore evap canister and bunch other stuff off the Mav. Cost $2000 to get it all repaired.

It ripped out the fiber shield and bunch of the mounts from the floor board, various lines and such. Ford’s body shop had to take out seats and carpet to weld up new mounts and I had them undercoat all underneath the truck. Truck has been gone a while as I traded it for a new 24 hybrid for the wife.
