MSRP $36725.00 before TTL and dealer fees.
You will never get what a dealer gets for a used vehicle. Remember, buy from a dealer, and you can keep going back and complaining about a problem. (small things like rattles), buy from a private owner gets you no one to complain to. A vehicle as new as yours will have to be really discounted to attract a buyer. Good luck with whatever way you decide to go.

They offered you $2700 less than you bought it for. Even with low miles it is a 2 year old truck, they offered you a great price. Sure they will sell it for more than they paid you but they also will prep it for the sale and give the buyer a week to decide to keep it. I think you will be hard pressed to find a private buyer who will match that offer.

I would agree, I have a few upgrades I need to transfer over to the new truck. Once that is done I think I will take the Carmax offer or matching dealer offer.

Thanks all for the support and suggestions.

That reminds me that it is great to sell to these guys, but I would never buy a vehicle from them. Have sold my Grand Cherokee to them as I know it was a question of time until the DEF issue popped up again. There are a lot of people out there who fix their vehicle short term and then sell them to Carmax, Carvana etc.
I will pretty much only buy a car from CarMax. The pricing carries a small premium over other franchised dealerships, but the entire process is straightforward.

For example, you can reserve a car for free with no credit card required. Once it's reserved, they pull it off the market. So even if someone shows up in person with cash in hand, they will see that the car is reserved and not sell it unless you release interest in it.

I once had a cashier's check printed for a used car from a franchised dealership and the salesman called me while I was driving over there (300 miles away) telling me they had sold it.

You also get to go on a solo test drive and have basically as much time as you want afterward to really look over the vehicle, fit your child's seat, try all the buttons, etc without having the salesman breathe down your neck. I usually go on the test drive first then park right in front of the entrance so they can see that I'm back and just looking over the car.

The purchase process is very transactional. The prices are non-negotiable unless there is something fundamentally misrepresented with the vehicle (like a tire with a slow leak, or they said it had a tow hitch but it doesn't, etc). The only upsell is their warranty, which, at least when I worked at a dealership, was one of the most generous in the industry. There is no finance office. Instead they have several people processing paperwork simultaneously and you get called to a window to sign, pay, and leave.

I was in and out with one car in under two hours, which I thought was pretty good since a solid 45 minutes of that was even before I said, "Yes, I'll take it". The last car I bought from CarMax took a little more than three hours, but that was partly because there were only two employees in the store that can drive manual, and neither were porters. So every time the car had to be moved (washing, final inspection, delivery), one of those two employees needed to be located.

Greetings all I need to sell my 2024 Ford Maverick Terrain Lariat Hybrid. Includes moon roof. It has 1413 miles on it and was delivered in November of 2023. Garaged since new and no damage or accident history with clean title. Car Max is offering 32K here in south central Texas. It comes with a Demco mounted flat towing baseplate. Would you guys take that offer or try to sell retail?
For comparison, two months ago I bought a 2024 ecoboost Lariat FX4 with 4K towing with 2800 miles for $32000 from a dealership in northeast Texas.

All I can add is don't sign title or anything or provide KEYS until you see a check in hand. A MAJOR dealer purchased my truck, decent price but as soon as they had keys in hand, title signed, and assured me they could cut the check before I left.... they then let me know it would be Monday (2 days) before someone could sign the check...(you can pick it up Monday) then they turned around and mailed me the check on Monday...took a week to finally get paid.

I have dealt with most of the Carvan, CarMax, etc and all are above board in dealing with. Selling to the public is a major headache in my experience.

On another sold vehicle, Caravan employee picking up the car had the check with them.

I'd prefer a quick sale with little to no hassle. I'll use the funds to payoff the note on the 25 Mav.

I'd take it.

Carmax and Carvana pay more for cars than dealers because they make their profits on loans that are way above market rates, particularly the sub-prime ones. It just looks nicer than a ghetto buy here pay here lot. Part of the reason used cars have got so expensive (those two companies buying up everything as loan collateral, and looking good on a balance sheet for investors).

I sold my last one to Carvana and it kinda felt like I was part of the problem, but my last few private car sales left me feeling uncomfortable, and I do plenty of buying and selling of stuff on the side.

A few years ago I was going to purchase a Chevy truck from Carmax. Had low miles. I called and asked if there were any issues. They said none, in perfect condition. I got the VIn and checked it on CARFAX. It showed some maintenance records but also showed a front and rear accident. Did not say how bad. Called them back and they acted surprised. Most dealers use CARFAX or AUTOCHECK. Never went back again.
Story is, when you buy a used vehicle check the VIN with a service to get real facts and take to a trusted mechanic to go over it. Another way of verifying low mileage is does it have the factory tires still. Factory cheap tires usually last only about 25k miles. In many cases, you can only trust a used car dealer as far as you can see them.
I've bought 2 trucks with super low mileage, payed cash to a private party and got a better deal, using this method.

CarMax uses AutoCheck, but doing your own due diligence is well worth it. Hence why I like the solo test drive with the solo time with the car afterward. I am a former mechanic and like to think that I can get a pretty good gist of a car with just a test drive and an on-the-ground inspection. Also, if you have AAA, you get a couple of CarFax reports for free. Helpful to cross-check the information.

I bought my F-250 used from a Ford dealership and got quite the deal after I pointed out that the thing was clearly in a collision that wasn't reported anywhere since the stamped identification plaque on the core support was painted over and there was a faded circular "Paint OK" sticker on the firewall by the brake booster. I figured they'd let me walk and sell the vehicle to someone less informed, but I suppose they took the route of, "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush".

As for calling and inquiring, I agree with the "can only trust as far as you can see". The salespeople are reading the same information that is available on the listing, so I don't even bother asking the history of the vehicle.

If they are offering you 32K they know they can get more than that. Every area the prices are a little different. My good friend just bought a Santa Cruz:facepalm: with 5000 miles 2 days ago and paid 34K. And drove 3 hours 1 way to get it. Said he wanted a Maverick hybrid but said he could not find one fully loaded with low miles under $40K. I would first try to sell it yourself for couple thousand more. See how it goes. Money talks bullshit walks. You dont need to put up with any BS. List price as firm. If after a few weeks you can change your mind and sell it to Car Max or someone else.✌
Carmax, and Carvana make there money on financing, not on car sales. They will give you a better price for your car than the dealer will offer, and sell it with less profit when you finance with them. Selling a vehicle privately is a pain if the buyer doesn't have cash.

I saw this post and it encouraged me to check the offer in my area.
Carmax offered me $30K for a 2024 Lariat Hybrid. Being that I wanted AWD on the Maverick and! my car suffers from the horrible dash rattle (dealer can't/no refuses to fix) I'm thinking I take the check and try to get a 2025 AWD that is still on the lot.
Actually kind of surprised how many 2025 are still available.

Don't fool yourself,....my 2025 dash rattles in at least 3 spots and is far worse than my 2023 was. It's worse after they performed the PADI recall I specifically told the dealer not to do, but they suck so bad I don't want them touching my truck anymore.
