I was rear ended when stopped in a construction zone on the interstate, by a dump truck that was bringing material to that construction site. If he was going another 15 mph when he hit me, you wouldn’t even have the pleasure of insulting me in every possible way you can think of. I will ALWAYS use my 4 ways when traffic slows on the interstates. It is without a doubt the responsible and safe thing to do. A local used car dealer and his son were stopped in traffic on the interstate while returning from a car auction and were rammed by a big rig. The car burst into flames and they both died.

Presumably, you believe the accidents you cited occurred from distracted drivers or those not paying attention. Your solution to this dilemma is for you to be the distraction. To say I am mystified by your logic would be an understatement.

Lol. I'm in Texas. Did you have a specific traffic law you were thinking of?

Anyway, as far as being "on-point," you are welcome to interpret my post as applying *SPECIFICALLY* to hazard flasher use in heavy rain as well. I just don't have a very strong opinion on that *SPECIFIC* context, because "driving according to the conditions" is subjective, and I'm in a well-maintained AWD vehicle with good A/T tires. I appreciate knowing when people are potentially going to be in my way.

Laws are different state to state, and the conditions upon which hazard flashers are deemed legal to use.

The non-lariat headlights are pretty bad. I feel bad for other drivers but it's within spec on mine. Once I find a good set of Lariat headlights for a reasonable price I'm switching. LED reflector headlights are garbage.

In Ohio, it is generally legal, with restrictions. In some states, it is illegal while moving. You can interpret the laws as you wish, and have your opinions on what is acceptable.

It is my opinion that driving down the road in heavy rain with your hazards on is stupid, just like using your hi-beams all the time in daylight. And in Ohio, under certain conditions, it is also illegal.

In Virginia it's legal to drive with the flashers on in limited visibility if you are under 30 MPH. So potentially illegal if you are going 30.

'25 Hybrid AWD Lariat here. I always set my lights to 'A' (automatic) and never been flashed.

Same for me.

I also enable the "automatic high beams" which have worked flawlessly.

All Mavericks have automatic high beams.

The windscreen mounted camera looks for headlights and taillights of vehicles and selects either low or high beam as appropriate.

NOTE: Most state laws allow high beams to be used up until an approaching car within 500 feet of you. Also, they allow high beams to be used if you're following a car as long as you're 300 feet or more behind them. I've had about a dozen cars with automatic high beam and the systems have all been able to see well beyond these limits and have acted accordingly.

You can turn the automatic high beams on or off in a Ford Maverick through the touchscreen settings or the steering wheel instrument cluster menu.

How to Control Auto High Beams

• Touchscreen Method: Tap Settings on your SYNC screen, select Vehicle, choose Lighting, and toggle the Auto Highbeam switch on or off.
• Steering Wheel Method: Use the steering wheel controls to open the cluster menu, go to Settings > Vehicle > Lighting, and check or uncheck the Automatic High Beam box.
• Headlight Switch: Leave your main headlamp control knob in the Auto position for the system to function correctly.
• Manual Override: Push or pull the turn signal stalk at any time to temporarily override the system and control your brights manually

Also of note I have set DRL (daylight running lights) on.
That is the safety feature to be noticed in the daytime not high-beams.

§ 4305. Vehicular hazard signal lamps.

(a) General rule.--Simultaneous flashing of the two front and two rear signal lamps shall indicate a vehicular traffic hazard. The driver of a motor vehicle equipped with simultaneous flashing signals shall use the signals when the vehicle is stopped or disabled on a highway, except when the vehicle is stopped in compliance with a traffic-control device or when legally parked. Drivers of other vehicles shall exercise extraordinary care in approaching, overtaking and passing a vehicle displaying vehicular hazard warning signals.

(b) Use outside business and residence districts.--Outside of a business or residence district:

(1) The driver of a motor vehicle or combination equipped with simultaneous flashing signals shall use the signals when the vehicle is unable to maintain a speed of at least 25 miles per hour because of weather, grade or other similar factors or is unable to maintain a speed consistent with the normal flow of traffic.​

(c) Use below minimum speed limit.--The driver of a motor vehicle or combination equipped with simultaneous flashing signals shall use the signals when the vehicle is not maintaining at least the minimum speed established in accordance with the provisions of section 3364 (relating to minimum speed regulation).

Perfectly legal and desirable if he's unable to maintain speed in bad weather but others are still passing him.

Don't know if it's still this way, but it used to be in PA, under 40MPH on the highway 4-way flashers were required. At the same time, in MD it was illegal to use flashers at any speed.
