Cant seem to see where I said anything against the Atkinson engine or how long Ford has had it. Only mentioned my reason why I ordered the 2.0. It is my preference of an engine.
You said you chose EB because Ford seems to have the bugs figured out with that powerplant. That would seem to suggest you do not believe that is the case with the alternative (hybrid/Atkinson). If not, wouldn't it have been more accurate to say you chose the EB for some other reason (the power, towing...)?

Interesting! What did you use to deaden the sound? This is one of my biggest concerns as I currently own a Honda Insight that has AWFUL sound deadening, particularly on concrete highways.
I have some fiberglass pieces I was going to use if needed. And for that fluttering of the hood.

For what its worth.....As I wrote---I have 2 other Fords with the 2.0. And to me, they have worked the bugs out of these engines. So-the "accuracy" of my statement was preference. Original poster was concerned about getting a Maverick based on the issues he has read about and "buyers remorse." I replied back that my Maverick was ordered with 2.0 based on my experience. I only make reference to the power train because thats the heart of any vehicle. I have no idea what type of Maverick they are ordering, what horsepower they want and what preference they have for models or options etc.... If you have the 2.5 Atkinson, then let the original poster know your experience.

The Atkinson system was patented by him back in the 1880's.
Yes, I was simply referring to the fact that specific engine has been used by Ford (in a hybrid system) longer than the 2.0 EB has even been around. Post I was responding to seemed to suggest the EB had a longer/stronger history of reliability (I may have just taken it wrong).

You read it as you did, no big deal. I do believe the 2.0 has been around in its own form, non EB and EB, as it was originally developed from I think the Volvo 2.0. for about the same amount of time. And you are correct saying the 2.5 has been a hybrid engine in use since I believe 2009-2010 model years. (We bought a new 2010 Ford Fusion and I opted for the V6. ) Ford modified the 2.0 platform and the development was started about a model year or so after the 2.5 hybrid offerings. Ford had to mess with the 2.0, changing head and other components, as they geared toward introducing their new EcoBoost engine offerings and having the 2.0 part of that. I was answering the original poster based on what I bought and my experiences, but nothing you mentioned is incorrect. The original poster has plenty of threads to read about the various engine and model options and how they relate to his or her preference. Hell, when I worked at a Ford garage decades ago, the Escort fiasco with the timing belt breaking and valves getting dropped into the heads was world wide known. But people kept buying them old Escorts, even based on what they knew about the issue, because that was their preference. There was also the variable venturi carburetor on the various models that was a joy (sarcasm) to work on. Thank goodness fuel injection came along not long after.....

I would have to reread the posts, but I also believe the poster was leaning toward an EB engine.

Fastbackjohn, you are showing your age, i did my share of escort TB, i worked on a handful of those variable venturi carbs.

I could do the pinto or vega TB in .5hr. As a mobile mechanic i carried the parts to do them. Pissed boss off, he always wanted me to charge more then half hour labor.

The ECOBOOST engine has evolved big time since inception, i owned a 3.5 2011, was one of the first f150 ECO in austin. Then owned a 2.7 f150, then got a Gen 2 3.5 f150 with the dual induction which solves the valve carbon problems?

Its a great business practice to go turbo, cause you still get the fuel economy of the 4 cylinder, but the power of and 8cyl n.a. engine. DI brings its own set of problems, high pressure fuel pump is a concern still?

I remember in the 2000s when Ford announced they were leaving the modular family after 20yrs and moving into the turbo era. We were running around at SEMA looking for any hint of the ECO. It was a good business decision i thought.

For all that are contemplating sound deadning, i highly recomend it, did mine however i will revisit when it cools down. I have more ideas for mods...the quietest vehicle i have ever owned by far!!

The stereo rocks as well..

The AC will run you out of the truck @110°ambient.
This is my next little mod, mainly in the front door panels after the bottle holders. Tends to vibrate on some songs and annoy me lol

Before you do sound deadning, tap on the outside door skin, real hollow ting..after the inside is done retap on outside of door. Major difference, i want to do the rear quarters as well this winter.

Will do the inner wheel wells as well, cause tire noise is the next priority.

I want to get the Mav on my loft and do some aluminized under the cab by firewall and tunnel.

Just a little mass on the outer door panel by the speakers will keep the tunes from the speakers in the cab, huge difference!

When you sound deadning you get 3 things in return: thermal insulation heat/cool inside cab is more efficient, sound quality in cab increases, cab noise is lowered.

If you have good speakers it will wake them up! Probably best mod for the buck.

I am getting to order a 2023 Maverick and I am getting concerned about all the issues I am reading about. Anyone want to chime in and make me feel more confident about my potential purchase? How many of you are sorry you bought the vehicle.
10 months/ 10,000 miles. No issues / no remorse.

Great post. Yea- I am showing my age (60 ) and yes keeping spare parts at the bench kept my steps to the parts counter down but the service clerk pissed. And I kept 1 electric rear antennas for the crown vics and lincoln town cars too as that was a weekly thing. Then the dreaded 302 lower knock surfaced. Ugh. And yes if was one of the better business decisions.

I hear ya, the only way you could make money was keeping a stash of parts, and very much so of electric modules and switches for diagnose purposes. Hope you are retired now as technician(and i mean technician NOT mechanic) is the number 1 roughest career on the body. I didnt make it past 55, blew out back.

Fyi... Contrary to very popular belief, body joints, backs and pretty much every other body part don't wear out and break down like car parts🧐. A long term (e.g., 30 year) study indicated lack of use, trauma (auto accident, etc.) and diet cause them to wear out and break down over time.😉. And by far, it's dietary issues.
