Broken Windshield From Rock Crack - Any replacement advice?

I Got a decent size “rock crack” dead center of my right eye. Insurance will replace it since it is in my field of vision. Anyone else had a windshield replaced? Any advice I should heed? Insurance suggest Safelite, but state law allows me to use any glass company…

Make sure you watch, removing windshields can cause damage. Watching will ensure they take their time.

Almost in the same boat... our daughter bought a brand new Escape off the show room floor... had it two days and caught a stone right smack in the middle of the windshield... Safelite replaced hers... an OEM windshield wasn't available... Safelite did a great job and recalibrated all the sensors... still, kinda sucks having a brand new car with 200 miles on it and the windshield gets broke... insurance paid for it but... gee whiz

I used Safelite. $100 State Farm deductible. Very pleased with their work.

It even fixed the window rattle I had since purchase from improper sealing to the frame.

I’ve been waiting over 2 months to replace my cracked XLT. Only OEM available according to glass place and they have to order through dealer. One supposedly came a week or 2 ago but was damaged so the wait continues. I’d say you should try to see if they’ll replace yours with the Lariat acoustic since it’s only a $20 difference in cost. I tried but gave up when it became a time suck explaining the part numbers to all parties involved. You might have better luck though

Safelite did a good job with my 2020 Escape. Recalibrated everything and it came out great. I’m glad insurance paid for it. $1700.

You can request an OEM one. Typically they try a generic one.

When they take it out, they use a fishing line like thing. It can scratch the paint, under the glass, they should apply paint (black something if I recall) before any seal and windshield.

Get oem with the sound scape( I think that’s what it’s called, lol) my experience with third party is distorted view either to the sides and or up/ down.
Like others said. Get an experienced tech. Others will mess up your ride

You might want to see if you can upgrade to a Lariat accoustic windshield. Maybe you can pay any extra costs (shouldn't be much). Should be slightly quieter. If one is available.

I wonder if satellite would remove my windshield and reinstall, see if that fixes the rattle???

I'd call and check on cost of that. Not sure if Insurance would cover though.
