Brake maintenance mode

Hey Mavericks.....so looking to do the rear brakes on my '22 XL AWD Ecoboost. Got the directions on this club site on activating/deactivating the brake maintenance mode. So for shits and giggles, I tried it.....got it to go into maintenance mode, but can't get it back to normal???? Tried many different things, still nothing worked ? Any one have any ideas ? Maybe there is a position sensor on the e-brake motor that recognizes that the caliper hasn't be compressed???? Looking for any help. Thanks, Mavs

Maybe you tried this already, engage/disengage the parking brake. Maybe there's a logic circuit in that process that cancels maintenance mode. . . good luck.

Personally I think all this crazy stuff just to change pads is plain DUMB.being 73 explains why.

I agree. But it does eliminate a parking brake cable and separate pads for it .

And with an electric parking brake, the truck can set the brake automatically when it detects you're parked on a hill. It amazes me how many people park on a hill and don't set the Parking brake.

There are parking brake designs that use the same pads as the hydraulic brakes--on this chassis even. Eliminating something as reliable as a cable in favor of an electronic, computer-controlled interface is not an advantage in my opinion.

Is this the procedure you tried to exit brake maint mode?
1. Set the ignition to ON
2. Press & hold the accelerator pedal
3. Hold the EPB switch in the APPLY (upward) position
4. Firmly press the brake pedal for at least 1 second. Release the brake pedal while continuing to hold the accelerator and EPB switch.
5. Switch the ignition OFF and then back ON within 5 seconds, then release the accelerator and EPB switch.
Once the ignition is set to ON, the EPB system will immediately apply and release the parking brake to guarantee sufficient air gap between the rear pads and disc.
If the EPB switch is not released prior to completion of this sequence, it will apply the EPB, which will have to be released before moving the vehicle.
When Brake Maintenance Mode is deactivated, the yellow Parking Brake and red Brake Warning indicators turn off, and "Brake Maintenance Mode" no longer appears in the message center.
