BOV Install…

Below are pictures of the Boomba Blow Off Valve (BOV) I installed today on my 2025 EB engine. The BOV is mounted under the OEM bypass control valve.

When you lift off the throttle - pent up air pressure pushes the bypass valve open and will divert the pressurized air back to the intake tube pre turbo via a plastic tube underneath (not visible in pic). This prevents the pressurized air from going backwards into turbo - not good,

With the BOV in place, much of that excess are will “whoosh” out when the bypass valve opens. I’m imagine some air will continue on through the normal tubing too - just not as much.

The OEM harness attached the the bypass valve is there to “throw codes” if the bypass valve solenoid malfunctions.

Not going to test drive until tomorrow. Extreme Heat Warning in effect here & garage is already at 110!

The Bypass Valve on the new EB is top center near the firewall. The previous Gen has the Bypass Valve lower on driver side. Just fyi…

Also fyi is a video (not me) with the sound during driving with window open. My windows stay closed - not sure if I will even hear it

Yes, that is my goal I’ll let you know tomorrow if I hear it from inside while driving with windows closed. I’m already deaf to the high pitched whine from my turbo. Maybe the lower pitched “phttt” will come through?

You can compare the sound of a turbo BOV to the sound of feedback on an electric guitar.

WHY make that noise? Because you CAN. Obnoxious? Probably.

Ironically you can’t make that sound on an EV or a purely mechanical acoustic guitar or piano. Or a normally aspirated engine either.

Both the sounds of a turbo BOV and an electric guitar’s feedback are going extinct.

Oh well. Neither sounds were recorded on the Golden Record sent into space on the Voyager to explain humanity. Just as well.

Just what the world needs is more noise, really. Some folks think a hybrid is complex, yet turbos and what people do to ice for some reason is a whole diferent definition of complex... wasting my time creating noise is not for me but as they say, you do you I guess,

Put one of these, but a Turbosmart brand, on my Focus ST years ago. It was a lot of fun!! Loved hearing the blow off sound.

Test rode it today. Sounded great - even with windows up. A subtle whoosh sometimes. A louder whoosh if beans were applied and then foot off the gas!

Sound needs to be induced by crappy mpg driving however. I am not prone to giving her the beans and suddenly lifting off the throttle. My mpg’s will suffer for a bit until the novelty wears off.

Luckily no “codes were thrown” and no turbo flutter either yay!

But c’mon - the fake engine sound from the speakers under the hood of your hybrid is just as obnoxious as
the gentle whoosh of fresh air emanating from my BOV?

And don’t get me started on the thunks thuds whines and whistles noise you hybrid owners make. Turn it off! Turn it off!

You had Ford install the Ford Racing Intercooler when they did your recall if I remember right? Are you going to add a tune to it?

Yes - my local Ford Dealer (Jim Click Ford) did the recall & intercooler install for $199. They did a great job! Bronco Sport Upper Banks courtesy vehicle in my garage last week. Brand new 26 model - but my garage smells better with my Lobo. Weird.

No aftermarket tune for me. I find my OEM Lobo Mode & Sport Mode tunes great my driving style!

The Ford Racing Parts big turbo kit includes a tune. I have no plans to do that upgrade however
